As long as the new sager is in the $2700 and less, I'm fine. I've saved around that much plus my current desktop should last for a few months or so, despite the fact it can barely play Knights of the Old Republic. Hopefully my patience won't wear out and I build my own PC off newegg ($2650 w/rebates and a nice 19inch LCD TV ). Has the 6800 models even come out for PCI-E?

If it takes an arm and a leg to get upgradeable graphics I'll do it, just have to get real liquored up first! Uh...with...non-alcoholic bevarages. Because I do not condone underage drinking of course!

I'm wondering something.. Intel slashed prices on most of their top-end CPU's, now LCD prices are falling due to overstock, lesser demand than anticipated, etc, etc.. When are we going to see those savings passed onto us? I know if you want to buy a LCD monitor, the price dropped ~%20 in lot of cases, some more, some bit less.. Any who.. Where are the laptop prices? Why aren't they falling?

This should help to alieviate some of the "anticipated" cost of PCIe notebooks. I hope!

I hope this drop affects current and new notebooks out. If not, I'm going to have to decide whether I want to spend all of my hard earned $2789.56 on a single PCI-E notebook or a PCI-E desktop w/ 19inch LCD-TV along with a cheap lappy from hp.

Heh. It looks like Eurocom pushed ahead the release date of the PCI-Express Notebook.
They only pushed the release date up two weeks...So I think there prettty close to release..in the past..Eurocom usually pushed the date back by several months..

I'm still a little befuddled by the fact that they still list 875P as the motherboard. As far as I know, 875 is an AGP mobo.
I was thinking... I currently have a 5680, 3.0 Ghz with 1 gig of ram but I am really looking forward to these new notebooks. What do you think is the chances of selling this less then 1 year old laptop which is still in great condition to someone or on ebay at a starting price of 1500? I can use that cash to put towards these next gen notebooks...

where do you see that? for the past month or so ive only seen:

"With the most powerful Intel Pentium 4 or Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor LGA775 "

At the specifications link look for chipset. It says 875PE.

oh ok i see it now, thanks.

I don't think it will launch to high, because it still has to be competative to Dell and the other Sagers. If you read Adams post in the rumor section it states the specs of the phantom are not final so the chipset could very well change. Don't worry about the Nvidia graphics card, because it is upgradeable, so you can change to the Ati when it becomes available. Also, if I am not mistaken, the 6800go is supposed to have 12 pipes and that will rock.

It's pretty obvious that the chipset spec should change since 875's don't have PCI-E support. I estimate a 3.4Ghz, 1GB DDR2, 60GB 7200, and a 256MB video card shouldn't be more than $2800-2900. Or at least I hope so.

Clevo (Sager, Pro-Star, Alienware, etc.) 17" WUXGA in December

Last week, I talked to a Pro-Star salesman, and wrangled out of him that the 17" WUXGA 1920x1200 will be out in December 2004. I wasn't able to fish PCI-E info from him, though. Reading through this forum for the first time though, I'm guessing that would be included with this model, unless they pull a Vaio on us - doubtful.

While in a way this is good news because we have a firm timeframe, it is also bad news because it probably means that the PCI-E release won't be October, but instead December.

Clevo is notorious for slipping on their release dates, so don't be disappointed if it isn't on time. The key is that it is on it's way, and we have a ballpark now. For me, the WUXGA will deliver Java and .NET coding space, 1080i HDTV resolution (1920x1080), and at least 6 more months of the laptop being current enough in the future.

I suppose a new laptop would be nice for Christmas, though I might have pressing needs now. Anyone know if there's any decent sub $500 laptop i can buy as temporary for the next few months?

Christmas? I can't go without a laptop at college that long =/
post #378 of 436
Yeah you can, I am
if you have a WUXGA screen, you can playback 1080p, 1080i is only for on-air bandwidth

does anyone know if the DVI port on the sager supports 1920x1200? (via Dvi, not vga connector)

I'm going to give it a shot. Though I think I have better odds at surviving an frontal impact with a bullet train than waiting for a PCI-E notebook to come out.
