Mobility 9800 Benchmarks..

post #1 of 20

Here are some more benchmarks to throw into the pile, any maybe help sway those who are undecided about upgrading to the 9800. Specs are in Sig..

3dmark01 (WITH OMEGA DRIVERS) = 16696
3dmark01 (WITH DELL 9800 DRIVERS) = 17415
Doom3 Timedemo 1024x768/High Quality= 35 FPS
3dmark03 (WITH DELL 9800 DRIVERS) = 6512

Quite impressive.....I did not record the timedemo numbers when running Doom3 with the Omega drivers

I think I am gonna stick with the Dell Drivers, as I seem to be getting a substantial performance boost. Doom3 runs pefectly , even better than my desktop with a 9800pro.

Overall, I am extremely please (and blow away) with the performance of this machine!

WUXGA display

Sweeet! I just received my i9100 and those are the same specs that I have. As of this minute, I am running the 3dMark03 benchmark... Will report in a couple of mins on what it says.

I do like the keyboard on that one better than on the i8500 that I'm currently typing on. THe travel and stop of the keys seem a lot better on the new box. Funny, because the keyboards look exactly the same (they're sitting right next to each other).

Anyway, I'm jazzed! The best $2.4K that I've spent (3 year accidental thingy, too).

Wait until you try Unreal Tournament 2004, I dont even like the game but watching it at 1900x1200 running a constant 60 fps can make you fall in love

With Dell drivers and stock...

3dmark03 = 6539

Woot...now to chisel the hard drive with a fresh install and optimize this bad boy!!!

Update: After fresh OS install and minimal software

3dmark03 = 6601

again with dell drivers...gonna keep playin and tweaking...

Hmmm. Now I've got problems, it seems. I've got the following (same as above):
* i9800 3.2G w/ HT
* ATI Radeon 9800
* 1 gig mem
* 7200 RPM 60 Gig HD

I'm running:
* WinXP Pro (cleaned up version installed from a fresh format)
* Omega 2.5.58 (just downloaded today)

My 3dmark03 is about 6100 or so. I ran it again and it said that it was at 59XX. Any ideas as to what I need to do to make it run faster?

Thanks!

Very very nice, I like those numbers can't wait to play with mine Monday

Hey fellas I got an XPS with same specs and I get 6590 on 3dmark and 43.1k on Aquamark. I dont understand scores that well but I do know that these were taken without overclocking and with the Dell drivers. Anybody explain the significance of these numbers to me plz? Also what kind of optimizations to get overall more performance from the machine is possible? Never done this so any advice will be great. Also sorry to add this additional quesion most likely it should be placed in another thread but has anyone done some lapping and application of Arctic Silver to their XPS? Thanks a lot.

Just benchmarked my 9100 with:

3.2GHz
1 gig RAM
60GB 7,200 RPM hdd
Clean install of XP Pro but no tweks and no services disabled... yet
New Dell Drivers for 9800

3dmark03 SCORE: 6525

looks like everything is running well and ready to be overclocked

Quick update. I must've had something wrong on my i9100. I ran the 3dmark03 benchmark with a couple of changes:

i9100, ATI 9800, 1 gb, 7200 rpm 60 gb, 3.2gig w/ HT. I'm running the Omega Corner drivers (v 2.5.58).

* Run #1: 90 watt power adapter (slower performance): 5265
* Run #2: 90 watt power adapter: 5248
* Run #3: 150 watt power (the BRICK): 6609
* Run #4: 150 watt power: 6573

So, I'm right up there in performance. This thing is smoking. Curiously, it seems as if the second run of any series runs slower than the first run does. Wonder why that is. I'm run 3dmark03 and then I run it again. No waiting. But the second run is typically slower.

Does anybody have any mobile meter readings?

There's almost no point to worrry about battery life on a computer like this... it's not going to be that long... an hour or so at max while gaming? Probably even less...

Hey the XPS come standard with the Dell drivers right? Man those are some nice numbers? I get to play with mine tomorrow

HunttheWumpass:

I had the same problem. I found I had forgotten to load the dell's chipset drivers. Once I did that, the performance jumped back the 6500-6600 range.
post #17 of 20
I just got my xps today, does it come with these chipset drivers, preinstalled or do you have to update from the website?
post #18 of 20
these guys are talking about after doing a full wipe of the harddrive. This has no relevance to a just received system unless you are wiping the HD as you read this
