UNIWILL N258KA0/Mwave N258KA0

Im typing this review from my brand new UNIWILL N258KA0.
unfortunetly i was blessed with an ugly dead pixel, more on that later though.

I was happy to go into work and check the status of my shipment to see that it had arrived about an hour after i left for work. I couldn't wait to get home and play with my new lappy. When i got home i immediately wipped out the camera to take some shots. (sorry for the ****tiness of my shots, the camera i'm using is a video camera hence the crappiness)

Ok, now for pictures of my unfortunate dead pixel

sad.

more random shots, cuz i know you guys love pictures, i know i do.

and the power brick, which really is a brick i might add.

overall im pretty pleased with it besides the dead pixel. i'm still thinkin about returning it to see what they can do, but the wait was soo long already i dont know if its worth it. as far as the heat issue goes it doesn't get that hot i just got done playing cs for 2 hours and it was pretty warm but didn't burn my hand. the battery life lasted the windows install and some other essential application installs like aim and steam. i will post dvd playback at another time and test the battery from begining until shutoff. the speakers dont go very loud but hey what do you expect with laptop speakers, when i plug my headphones in though the sound quality is good. i will post picture request or answer questions if you guys have any and i will be updating this review later on.

Specs? I am def. interested in your batt. life stats... also, if you have doom3... it'd be awesome if you could post what fps and settings you were able to get (with good quality, obviously)... I'm considering this lappy so any gouge you can give is helpful.

TIA

Can you do a screen capture & post the shot so I can see what the WXGA looks like in terms of screen real estate?

Jagwire:

am seriously thinking about getting the same system from mwave. How was your ordering experience?? What kind of warrantee comes w/ your system, am guessing the 1 yr standard--does mwave offer extensions?? If avaliable, from them or the manufacturer?? I also know mwave has a 30 trial money back guarantee, if am not mistaking??

secondly: go a bit more in detail about the heating issue--i personally don't think it's that bad, plus i don't plan on doing any gaming...so if i do get one, it should stay plenty cool

keyboards, how do they feel??

Does mwave provide some productive bundles/suites apart from OS. Am seeing Nero Express, My & Power DVD etc...are these yours or did mwave include them??

Thanks...

odetola-

Lori from MWave said the offer a 1 year warranty through MWave, however for 1 dead pixel I don't know if they'd take it back. It's worth a shot though.

There really isn't a heating issue as far as I can tell. I played Kill Bill 2 with volume maxed, and got through the movie and then some. The notebook didn't get hot at all. I would even say it's borderline warm. Most of the warmth is generated at the back right side of the notebook and the left palmrest.

The keyboard is sturdy, almost feels like a standard desktop keyboard. Being that it is a notebook, there is a very very very minute flex. Kinda like if you push REALLY hard on your desktop keyboard.

As far as the software bundle goes, my notebook didn't come with anything except the Utility Drivers. One thing I didn't know is that you need that utility disk. I wasn't aware that Catalyst Drivers wouldn't work for the Mobility cards. Also, the Utility Disk installs all the drivers you need right off the bat. Good notebook, good company, good experience.

For a little more than $1200, I think 1 dead pixel is acceptable. If I get another one though, it's going back to MWave.

they actually sent me 2 copies of powerDVD and 1 utility drivers, 1 nero express, and 1 myDVD whatever that is.

odetola: my experience has been the about same as arcanes. they have some weird cc authentication method though but other than that the ordering experience was what's to be expected.

quadro: the specs on mine right now are the 3200+ 256mb ram, 5400 rpm 40gig and the dvd-r plus all the regular configs like m11 and wxga and so on. I will be upgrading this thing next week when i get paid to 1gig of corsair ddr400 ram and a 7200rpm 60gig ill also be installing the wireless card since they dont offer that as an upgrade option :/

a13antichrist: ya i can do that gimme a few min

lemme know if thats what you wanted

wow...thats a lot of side room. It is really a shame that MWAVE doesn't offer a wifi card, though it is an easy install but if you are like me and dont want to mess with it, there are resellers that do have that option.

Good pictures...i like the whole interactive review-in-progress style. That 1 dead pixel is a drag, but atleast it isn't bright red or green, that would stand out so much more (unless you are using a bring red or bright green background )

battery life note: so you got Kill Bill 2 on full screen with volume all the way up and still have minutes to spare? That doesn't sound so bad. Can you give times on heavy gaming (Doom3, Unreal 2k4, FarCry) and also a time for basic stuff (AIM, IE, Word)?

FPS: Run a few of the games mentioned above or any newer games that you have at home (*cough*suprnova.org*cough*) and give some FPS.
