Desktop reduced after power save

Closed the lid on my Dell without shutting down, and it went into powersave mode. When I fired it up again, the desktop area is reduced on the screen with an area of black around it. Restarting hasn't helped.

Any suggestions on where to look regarding the setting to reset the desktop area?

Have you tried re-setting display properties? (Right click on desktop -> Properties -> Settings)
