4) no pegs on the bottom [annoying when in your lap? mebbe]
5) ports on the back rather than the sides
6) parallel port [3790 lacks this]
7) costs about $150 less [than a 3790 with 2 batts]
8) 2 yr warranty, lifetime service included [discountlaptops]
Most of these are facts, Aikeo. However, I take issue with #4. There are indeed posts on the bottom of the CL56. They may not be quite as long (aka--storm surge proof -- as it is known in FL) as the 3790's, but they are present, nonetheless.
I would also take issue with labeling #1 as fact. This depends upon exactly what kind of battery life you would need/expect. 8 hours? You'll need a second battery for the CL56. 5 hours? You'd get that with the butt-tumored 3790's single 12 cell (no need for a back-up carcinoma).

So, bearing the above in mind, some of your reasons for purchasing a CL56 are no more factual than Drawmonster's very educated opinion. In fact, when one considers that Draw has had both laptops in front of him for a side-by-side comparison, I would venture his opinion might have, in certain circumstances, more weight than your fact.

All this aside, my previous post wasn't an attack on you or any other person who has ordered a CL56. It's a reliable notebook which is certainly more affordable than the 3790, and I am glad to hear so many folks are happy with theirs. I wish you nothing but the best of luck and supreme satisfaction with your recent purchase from DL.

I was taken aback by eclipsenfs assertion that Drawmonster's opinion-rendering likens him to the Queen of England.
Knowing what I do of Draw, I highly doubt he looks anything like the Queen. He would be laughed-out of the military (although, were he to look like the Queen-Mum, he might be a tremendous asset in covert-ops).

#4 --> says mebbe

btw i dont care if hes the president of the united states, its still an opinion

True. But are all opinions equal? Would your auto mechanic's opinion on your father's heart condition be equivocal to that of your father's cardiologist? Both professionals are entitled to their opinions, but most would agree one opinion would be more "factual" than the other, no?
Here's a more applicable example to this case. Your Lexus breaks down. You take it to the first mechanic who says, "I've read up on this car. I've been Googling and reading and I know a lot about it. I've seen lots of pictures. I know the specs. I've never actually touched one or seen one IRL, but I think I know what's wrong." Being a frugal shopper, you get a second opinion. This guy says, "I specialize in Lexus. I've seen this car . . . hell, I have this car in my garage. I've tooled around with it. I know its capabilities. I think I know what's wrong."
Each guy ends his speech with the same opinion: "I think I know what's wrong." Who is the more qualified to know? Both have rendered legitimate opinions. I would argue that, though both are legitimate in their own rights, one opinion is more of an informed opinion than the other.
You are correct in asserting Drawmonsters comments represent "an opinion"; however, I would trust the opinion of a guy who has had both side-by-side IRL, tested both, reviewed both over the opinion of a guy who has scoured forums, read reviews, called sales departments, stared at pictures, etc. but who has never seen nor touched the product IRL.

Makes sense, no?

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't argue that Drawmonster's posts represent his opinions on the two laptops in question. I also don't think either laptop is truly superior to the other. Good luck to all who are trying to decide between these two. Here's to satisfaction without buyer's remorse to all!

P.S. -- You can ignore the truth all you want, my friend, but your CL56 has legs. Stubby nubbin-like legs. Not stilt-like in any way -- but legs nonetheless. Look at the pics.

P.S.S. -- I pulled 5hr and 37 min. off my 12 cell with moderate (wifi on, MS Word, Windows Media Player on constantly playing mp3's, web-browsing). That's a fact measured with my own digital Casio. I challenge you to find reviews of the CL56 which demonstrate its battery hassubstantially-longer life than the 3790 under those conditions. Post those quotes to back up your fact in this case . . . otherwise, its opinion as well.

not everything has to be a Phd dissertation. its a notebook, not a car.
The car reference is analagous to the current notebook issue.

Also, subterfuge and misdirection aside, you didn't really address the issues brought forth in my previous post.

"Not everything has to be a PhD dissertation." That's an opinion as well.

yes please no more dissertation. issues u brought up have been addressed tenfold in the 7 pages beginning this thread.

the whole comparison is vs. the 3790 (with 6 cell) vs. cl56, not the 12 cell. ive said it a million times in this thread.

flowery language often disguises shortsighted analysis

i'll spell it out for you. "#4- mebbe," means that it's a half opinion. yes u were correct in remarking this, i thought this was apparent. 7 facts and one half opinion, thats pretty good. good enough for me to make a decision. the thread was started with the intent of hearing other's remarks, who read what had been said. no, i dont have to take a cl56 to a mechanic to evaluate how good it's going to be. that would destroy the point of these forums; if we all needed to do that, reading much of what is posted on here would be pointless. again, its a laptop, not a car.

the pegs on the 3790 are longer than the cl56. yes the cl56 still has tiny pegs-- but they are more like pads, that's the umm... point. again, i thought this was apparent. anyone who's ever looked a picture of the bottom of the cl56 can see that, it's pretty obvious. no one's ignoring any truths here, only opinions.

thats funny, george w bush has a similar talent with words / grammar. like i said before though, i don't care if george w bush is wholeheartedly trying to sell me his 3790, i want to consider the facts on my own and make a decision for my needs.

holy crap, this thread took me forever to read, i think 1-2 pages was guys talking about syn, and trying to figure out a damn analogy for a freaking car and gas tanks... personally i think the 3790 is gonna take me away on this one, i thought about the cl56 prior to purchasing, and after hearing about the delay on my 3790, i reconsidered the cl56...

personally, it's all personal choice about what you need to do w/ it, now that i keep looking at it, the 12 cell looks tempting (since the 6 cell can't last me the entire day through school), but the lack of muscle in the cl56 *and screen* is a turn off, other programmers know what i mean, espcially since they've voiced their same opinions as me, the larger screen and better res is great when programming, not to mention when doing graphics work...

the warranty issue is tempting on the CL56 (through DL), but hopefully the 3790 doesn't crap out on me...

all in all, it's everyones freaking opinion, your buying the laptop so you can use it YOURSELF, although if someone were to pay for my laptop, i'll take either cl56 or 3790 and you can decide, but until someone else is paying for it 3790 i go...

now to decide if i want the 'tumor' and btw, for everyone who's talking about the bulge as a good thing aesthetically since it raises it, YOU'RE WRONG! the bulge is on the wrong side, the neutral position of your wrist IS not to have the bulge/feet key boards typically have on the back, but actually the front that's the hands neutral position, second of course to the hand shake position

Your analogy isn't entirely valid as the issue in question is the laptop in its normal running state, not being taken apart & being examined for faults. Fixing a broken car is a lot different to using a properly functioning one - you don't have to re-learn to drive every time you buy a new car, whereas the mechanic has to re-learn each car individually if he's to get to the stage described in your analogy. While there is much to be said for hands-on experience, your reference to the car is not quite as valid as might be desired.

With that out of the way, I think the main point of misunderstanding here is that Aikeo and I are pointing out the features of this laptop that we believe would cause us some inconvenience - whereas Draw is giving us a general opinion on his usage of such features. Clearly his input is an opinion, and a useful and qualified one at that. Draw however needs to be aware that regardless of how irrelevant those possible shortcomings are to him, Aikeo and myself stating them is not a direct criticism of the laptop, but rather our attempts to evaluate its suitability for our needs. The "features" are there, FACT - the opinion remains as to whether those features be classified as critical shortcomings or not - of which each buyer will need to form his own OPINION. As long as our statements of fact are treated as such, and not as attempts at first-hand opinion, then there is really no issue.

Correct. i value draw's opinion, but i still view it as that-- an opinion.
Indeed, anti13christ. The analogy has its faults, but its point, I think, is rather clear. Who would you trust to give the best advice when trying to decide between these two notebooks. This is all I'm asking. A fanboy with 12 back issues of laptop magazine and archived printscreen's of this forum with no hands on time with either OR someone who is similarly educated and who has spent a great deal of time putting each through its paces?

Aikeo: I've read the thread since my first post. I disregarded your 6 cell restriction in the comparison b/c the 12 cell is simply not that big. It is not at all, IMO, a hinderence to portability and should be included in a head-to-head with these two products.

Like I've said a million times before, congrats on your purchase. I am very pleased you found the right laptop for you. Similarly, I hope everyone enjoys their CL56's and 3790's once they start shipping again.
The title of this thread is CL56 vs. 3790, and the opening post, though well-written, presents as facts some information which, upon closer inspection, is not. Al "I invented the internet" Gore has a similar talent for spinning as well. (do we really need to bring politics into this?)

I looked the word "mebbe" up. It means "a Turkish dish comprised of ox tail, carrots, potato and radish."

Sorry if I've pissed anyone off here. I just didn't like the way the 3790 wasn't given a fair shake at the start by labeling as fact what, to me, clearly was opinion.

as you can see from the 3-4 people who immediately replied to the first post in this thread, they "feel" the 12-cell is too annoying also. this might be their opinion. no mistaking that. given that it is an *opinion*, naturally we exclude it in a comparison of facts. once again, we come to the central point that has been stressed since page 1. 3790 (6-cell) vs. cl56. if u can use the 12-cell and don't care for the 6 other cl56 advantages listed, get a 3790. simple. that's all we're interested in discussing here. =D

btw, al gore has hardly the talent for spinning like george w. he never could have sent my brother away to die for oil money and gotten away with it, let alone get re-elected. now that's talent =0

yikes wheres that inventor of the internet when you need him
post #137 of 141
My sincere condolences if your brother was killed in the war as you allude. I can't think of a more rotten thing to have to go through.

As for Al, I think I saw him at Krispy Kreme applying for a job yesterday.

very possible. or perhaps you saw him standing up in the senate directing the 100 members not to sign a petition giving rights back to the disenfranchised of miami dade county.

ah wait. krispy kreme worker / leader of the senate, meh, whats the difference.

"meh" = sort of like "bah," but more ruminative, and less bitter. used occasionally in the work of certain fiction writers.
