If the 12-cell is 'not an option' and you need longer battery life, then go with the CL56. I'm just trying to let people know that the 12-cell isn't that bad. Really, I think everyone who has handled a 3790 with the 12-cell has had no complaints at all.

When I go to the motocross track (with my highly-tuned machine) I run a half tank of gas and fill up every 6-8 laps. Gasoline is heavy, and running without the extra 10 pounds of gasoline lowers my center of gravity and improves handling ever so slightly. If I decide to enter one of the local desert races, I'd swap the gas tank out for a high-capacity version from Yamaha.

It all comes down to individual needs.

Okay, I think I'm done with the analogies.

yea-- as long as your laptop works for you, it's all good.

Well my character in some personas...depending where I play her is a Djinn..so I thought the Taj Mahal have that bagdad feeling :P I'd love to see it though.. I heard pictures just do not do it justic.

I actually like how the 12 cell tilts the unit down..course im usually slouching in bed when on my laptop and I have a tilt table to position right for me..so that would work for me if I wasn't buying PCIE soon as Sager releases that monster..

Ok, Construct, analogies aside, I don't care if the SL55 has a Buggy motor or a small gas tank. Honestly, I don't see any reason to discuss that and I think you know perfectly what I was talking about... In fact, that's why I told about if buying only one battery, I would go with the 12-cell.

ps.: for anyone who doesn't, it's the same as saying "I don't see any reason to buy a P-M with 1-2 hours of battery life".

as to the gas tank analogy, i'm also not sure why someone would think the "smaller gas tank" is a good thing. that'd be like saying i would buy a hummer h2 (probably gets 1/2 the gas mileage of my honda civic) to drive to work everyday. sure, the h2 is big and pretty and i could show it off to all my friends, but would it really be economical or even realistic? following this line of thought, do you think the majority of people who drive to work everyday own hummers, or own hondas? uh... right.

so okay, let's call these people that drive civics oh... i dunno, how about a metaphor for those that use laptops to *gasp* use them, rather than have the biggest and baddest SUV/truck out on the road. u know what's interesting to me, i've seen a few people who mention "but my acer gets 3-4 hrs batt life" get bashed because "yeah but acer sucks." this i don't understand... if their acer does what they need it to do, what's the big deal?

unfortunately, a 2-3 hr battery life on a P-M is just not good enough for them, or someone like me.

What's ironic is the fact that an Athlon64 easily clears 2 hours and approaches 3. If I weren't getting buttloads of battery life (say nearly 4), what is the point of using Centrino technology? No point at all...but to each his own...

Since you mentioned the word "handled" I'll bring this up: the main issue I have with the 12-cell is not the looks, that I could deal with. It's the simple fact that if you've got it sitting on your desk & you want to pick it up, you can't simply slide your hands around the back & grab it & walk along wiht it - you'd have to pick it up from the side & hold it at funny angle to carry it. It's just like the port placement thing - a slight change in design from Clevo while ignoring the fact that it kills all practical functionality.

Why couldn't you? The battery is a bit bigger, but it's not that much bigger.

The feet prop the machine up nicely to just grab it & go. With the 12-cell in the way you've got an extra two steps to have it nicely in your hands.

Er, if you say so.

You have no idea what your talking about. I "grab it and go" all the time. The 12 cell actually makes it easier to carry. It's like a custom grip that sits perfectly in your hand. You could run with the notebook at your side and not have to worry about dropping it. Please don't give us "facts" based on your personal opinions. You don't even have the notebook.

I have eyes though, and you can't try to tell me that you can get your fingers under that battery - it touches the ground so you can't possibly. That's what I said by two steps.
Yeah, your right. That's really tough. I can see why that would be a turn off. Those movements are really tireing.

i see your point, draw, but can't the same be said for adjusting your lcd so it's at the sweet spot? i mean, it only takes two seconds. =P

i think it's just a matter of opinion in either case.

Umm, no. I couldn't move at all without adjusting the screen on the CL56. I'm talking every couple of minutes. That's just annoying. Now whining about picking a notebook up, which doesn't happen every 2 minutes, that's just lazy.

You guys are seriously going to continue to validate your own opinions on why YOU bought YOUR laptops for YOURSELF to one another?
He he. Keep it up. I think the tumor comment deserves a beatdown. Seems irrelevent for a slight bulge. If I recall correctly the cl56 got a 21000 on the aquamark while the 3790 got a 26000. Quite a difference. One doesn't have active gpu cooling too.

Hehe, I have a desert tank on my old XR250. Never used that to motocross though.

If he would just see it my way, there wouldn't be a problem.

Seriously though. I can't let people throw their opinion around like it is fact without saying something. Everything I've ever stated has been about a laptop I own, have owned, or have in my posession for testing purposes. I just can't stand it when people who haven't even touched something go around acting like they know it all. If you have no experience at all with something, the we don't want to here your opinion on it!!!

The defense rests.
