Power on is intermittent - Sony Vaio

Sony Vaio PC-GRZ660

From full stop out of the bag from full rest (This is not over-heating issue)
Press power - no LED comes on in the front no boot
Re-seat battery - no LED comes on in the front no boot
Plug AC adapter then press power - no LED comes on in the front no boot
Reseat AC adapter and battery - no LED comes on in the front no boot
Shake laptop around - no LED comes on in the front no boot


Walk away from the computer in frustration and grab a bite to eat.

Come back and there is that chance that it will power on.

Laptop is unreliable and may or may not boot at any given time.

Also noticed that the time on the laptop stops ticking during the time it is off.
Turn off lappy at 1 AM, leave off for X number of hours. Boot up (when it does) and I will find that the time is still 1 AM.

Sounds like a RAM slot issue. Try pulling the ram from slot 2 (with the adapter and battery out), Hitting the reset and restarting.. Pretty common on these a well as FX series notebooks.

I have had 3 FX series notebooks in in the last month where the owner resoldered Ram slot 2. They shorted them out. First before any attempt at doing this.. PULL the battery.. and be sure its unplugged.. The you dont need to resolder every contact pin.. Take a dental pic or similar. Find the 4 that generally fail. (Loose from heat and lack of factory solder).. If you get a flowover.. Sop it up with solder wick.. These boards arent cheap. I hate to have to replace due to this type of mistake. You can mess up alot on these boards by doing it incorrectly.. (one had a solid bead of solder ran the full length of the slot) Looked like a TIG weld job!
