FS: Dead Sager 8887

NO LONGER FOR SALE

Wondering if anyone is interested in purchasing a dead Sager 8887. The motherboard seems to be fried as the machine wont even post. When it does post you can get into the BIOS and set the settings and get into windows. But it will quickly blue screen and be dead again.

If anyone is interested in it for parts or what not let me know and i'll make a deal.

I have not yet got a quote from Sager for the repairs since i can't afford to have it tested for the $45 + shipping since it is out of warranty.

- 16.1 UXGA LCD, no dead pixels (one minor blemish)
- 3.06 ghz P4 HT
- 40gb 5400rpm HD
- 128mb radeon 9000
- 1 GB DDR memory
- CDRW/DVD-ROM

The paint is all washed out on the wristpad area so it looks funy (tried to stop the flaking). Other than that it looks like a normal unpainted 8887. I'll have some pictures soon. but I can't find a digital camera at the moment.

hi guys, i replied to all the PM's and emails. i am currently on vacation and am not near internet access all the time. i will be back on the 31st with pictures and more info.

so far the highest price seems to be around $1200 or trade for similar working laptop (after all, i did pay $2700 for it).

thank you.

EDIT: forgot to mention, also have the tv tuner module hich is currently removed from the system. but i will gladly include it. and i also have 2 power supplies. 1 broken (wires need resoldering or splicing) and 1 working, very new.

EDIT 2: the battery does no longer last for more than 30 minutes.

I have a working Pentium 233 laptop. Would you trade for that?

heh, sorry, wont trade for that =p

i'll lower the price to $750. I think the parts alone are worth more than that!

also forgot to mention, it has a 3.06ghtz P4 HT.

the HD works, the RAM works, the processor works and when I can get it into windows the video works fine. I'm guessing it has something to do with the motherboard/BIOS. I only know what is working.

How much in total do you think it would cost to get it back up and running?

I'm guessing the mobo needs to be replaced and the vid card is built into the mobo. So that is around $500-$600 i would think.

A while ago there were upgrade options for the 8887 which cost about $600-$800 to upgrade it to the 8890.

I cannot afford either of these options.

Of course it could be something simple that I don't know about. I got the RMA# from Sager with instructions and the terms stated it would be $45 to diagnose the problem + shipping fees. If there were additional repair fees they would contact me first.

Can you test the CPU and RAM on another system? The HDD+CPU+RAM+Optical Drive+battery+Power Supply+LCD are the only salvagable parts assuming the mobo is fried.

A new mobo will cost around $500.00 so if someone wants a good system for around $1200 - $1300 this is a good option.

Can you test components individually? RAM and HDD can be tested by other members you trust. CPU can be tested by you if you have a intel desktop.

Cheers!

I would. I do not have another laptop to test the parts in. And all my desktops are AMD or p3 sockets =\

I may be able to convince a friend to let me test parts with so I can get an idea of what everything in it is really worth.

I do agree though. I myself would not buy a broken laptop not knowing exactly what works and what doesn't

i have some cash at hand and will be sending the laptop to sager in a few days to get it diagnosed. i will then post the total cost of the repairs necessary.
