Found a problem with my 3790

Looks like i can only run at full CPU speed with the adapter connected. it will not switch out of 600mhz running on battery. who noticed the same?

That is not a problem but the advantage of using centrino. That's because your on battery power. It keeps everything clocked low so it uses less power.

nope sorry to disagree, but that is incorrect. the pentium m brocessor jumps back and forth between 600mhz and full speed as the cpu load changes irregardless of wether its on batery or not. all centrino notebooks do this.

maybe its just your set for a certain power setting. I am pretty sure this was discussed before in the notebook general section. It was a couple weeks ago so you may need to search for it. Others claimed that it wouldn't get out of 600 mhz mode. I like using mobile meter to test my cpu usage. Maybe you should try that as well.

Actually, I downloaded and am running SpeedswitchXP, and it still seems to stay at 600Mhz on battery, even if I set it to go to max performance.

It's all very odd.

i am using mobilmeter and speedswitch also.

Have you tried to set the power profile in Windows XP to "Home/Office Desk" instead of "Portable/Laptop"? I found Pentium 4-M processor will do that if you set it to Portable/Laptop, but it will stay at the maximum speed if set to Home/Office Desk.... I'm not sure about the Pentium M though.

i dont want it set to maximum speed. i want speedstep to function irregardless of power status. On another note, i went in the Bios and there are some config settings for the speedstep so ill try messing with those.

Words are only what we agree on and mutually understand. Other than that there are no real words. Irregardless has been used for nearly a century. So, irregardless of what you think, irregardless is a word! LOL

Has anyone been able to get their 3790 back up to their full processor capability while on battery yet?

if you read the entire page, what the first guy said was correct... it (irregardless) isn't a word that makes sense... there is no difference between the meanings of the irregardless vs regardless except irregardless contains an extra unnecessary prefix

personally, i think it's rude to point out grammatical errors but since the subject had been brought up, i wanted to put in my 2 cents

Really? I would think that people want to know when they sound/look foolish to others, so they can learn from that and correct themselves in the future. I generally take people more seriously if they take the time to read what they've written before submitting.

Talk about a thread thats been redirected (Im prety sure that's a word!) Can we get back on track here? Not being able to scale up to the full potential of the processor while on battery is potentially disasterous and very self defeating! I'm very much interested if anyone has found a solution to this problem!

Using correct spelling and grammar does not make one's point correct nor does the converse of this statement. Pointing out things like spelling and grammatical errors is used in message board disagreements to more or less discredit the person with poor spelling and grammar and to disregard his comments as irrelevant. It's a cheap tactic and it is used far to often. There are very smart and knowledgable people who could not spell correctly to save their lives.

If it makes you feel better, I'm writing this statement because I think people want to know when they sound rude/arrogant to others... so they can learn and correct their actions for future reference

Back to the subject, the suggestion that someone made earlier to this thread is dead on in regard to checking the power scheme, etc. Also, you may want to use a cpu monitoring program in conjunction with a CPU intensive application like a game or dvd.

Any updates? This is a potential biggie.

my suggestion... consult a user manual or call tech support

this seems to be a driver/user error...

interesting how some of the other 3790 owners haven't commented yet

Btw, you left out a period at the end of that second paragraph. Just kidding.
