Battery Maintenance

Is there anything in particular that I need to do to be sure that my laptop battery dosen't loose it's charging capabilities?

Lithium Polymer batteries are very very resilient. They do not mantain a "memory" of charge levels like old nickel cadmium batteries, and don't even require the conditioning of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Some people out of habit still like to get them close to drained and fully recharge like with the former two battery types, but it is really not necessary with them. Lithium Polymer batteries actually "like" staying at a high charge.

I'm gonna digress a little from what Thunder said. You actually may want to drain it to zero occasionally, but not for the benefit of the battery life per say. Draining it to zero and recharging it back to full charge will recalibrate the sensor on the battery that tells you how much battery life you have left.

I'm actually having a significant problem with my battery right now. I have a 505XL that has, on average, been a great machine, but recently it only charges up to 60% and then stops charging. This leads me to believe that it needs a "recalibration" which I have done twice now to no effect.

Is this a battery problem or is there something else I should try? I'm pretty sure I recalibrated it correctly (the BIOS lacks a recalibration feature, so I had to switch to Always On with Alerts Off and drain it that way).
