DEll 8600 DVD upgrade

Thread Starter
I was wondering would it be possible for me to upgrade from a 24X CD-RW/DVD Combo drive to a 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+RW/+R) with double-layer write capability when the price drops ?

Sure it would, if the drive fits of course in your i8600.

And as far as I know there is an offer with this burner so go and get it

It depends on where you get it and what exactly you're after. For example, Newegg has an 8X DVD+-RW drive for $156. However, it might not match / be flush with whatever notebook you may have. Plus, you might have to cannibalize the parts from your old drive, or generally just acquire them, in order to install it. Remember though, at the core all drives are the same and have the same base IDE connector. So technically speaking, you can be guaranteed it will work- it's the aesthetics you might have to worry about.

Or you can get the Dell drive that is built specifically for your computer (i.e. it iwill look and fit perfectly with no fuss) from accessories. However, it definitely costs more than the bare drive from Newegg. For example, the 4X DVD+-RW drive from Dell for the Inspiron 8600 costs $229.95.

erblemoof, i just look at that page. The DVD Burner that you are refering to is not compatible with Inspiron 8600 (Different size, different connector). It does compatible with Inspiron 700M (It's the same type just like my friend have)..
