chat room?

has the idea ever come up to have a chat room here? I know it prolly wouldn't be as useful as the forums for getting notebook information, but when i see what goes on over here in off-topic, i think it'd be fun to go live.

yeah yeah yeah. but the only way to get a chat going with the NBF people is to have a NBF chat room. It just wouldn't be the same with a different crowd, you know?

I could just make it moderated, then have people post here before they can have a voice in the room.

If you have mIRC or another IRC client see if you can get into #talknotebooks on Gamesurge.net

it would be a nice little project if such s/w for a web-based interface is not available freely

we could write an applet client, and run the server app. off the current host (pctorque must agree to that i guess)

We've tried to do this (at least) twice with the IRC, but people never stayed long enough. I remember one on damaged, then on cyber2k.

I also seem to remember that they tried some sort of Java Applet? I may be lying. But I think it was around, I remember it came out around the same time as one of the IRC channels and I was disappointed that it would compete against it. It was all bubbly and round.

Maybe it'll take off again now that we have a buncha more people.

I think in order to get a lot of people in the room at once, it's gotta be a chat room integrated with this forum, not an IRC channel, simply because people won't go. Seems like it wouldn't be all that hard to add a chat, and link it at the top with the other main links.
