I'd say...it should work fine. ram is sometimes faulty. in my experience, ram usually doesn't go bad, it's either good or bad from the factory. if it's bad, rma it and get some more or order a different brand. I just bought two sticks - if either one or both is bad, I'll rma it, and if the rma sticks are bad, I'll return them and buy some Transcend. I really want some Crucial (love Crucial!), but their price is out of my budget right now.
I just bought two 1gb sticks of the Outpost ram with 2-day shipping for $325.62. For comparison, one 1gb stick of Crucial is $339.99. I really can't justify spending over $600 on ram when the laptop only has a 64mb video card. That may seem weird, but I'd only buy the Crucial if I had really spent a lot of money on a laptop, like a $3,200 Hypersonic CQ6 with 128mb video ram or one of those monsters with a 256mb video card. It's kind of a balance of budget vs. features. I set my budget at $2,000 for my laptop and all my upgrades, so this is working out perfectly. Now I'm just waiting for the 100gb 7200rpm 2.5" Seagate hard drives to come out

Desktop-replacement, here I come!
I will update this thread as I get the ram in and play with it. I'm going to test each stick in the external memory slot as suggested, and if all goes well, I'll have Best Buy install the internal memory slot ram for $30 so that I don't void the Gateway warranty on my 7405gx.
