buying an ACER 2012 WLMI or the ASUS M6000 series (in CANADA?)

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am cosidering either an ACER 2012 WLMI or the "official" ASUS M6000 (M6bne preferred) series,

but I have no idea where and how to buy it!

My situation is as follows, I currently am in the Netherlands but will be moving out of here on aug 31st. Will be staying in Toronto for 2 days, then move into Kingston to attend Queen's University.

I hope many of you can give me as much input as possible, as I am pretty much hopeless right now as to where and how to buy it.

Any ideas??

I have had several laptops and the Acer 2012 WLMi is a very good laptop for me. I also have several Asus Motherboards and am very satisfied with their quality. I also like the Asus laptop but it is not as well configured as the Acer i.e. DVD burner, 60 GHz HD, ATI 9700 Mobile Radeon so I chose the Acer.

Queen's University may have the special student plans for computers you might want to check them out.

According to trade journal digitimes, Intel is cutting prices on the Dothan CPU in October if you can wait.

Acer is more popular in Europe than Canada-US.

Good luck,

I was in Toronto a week ago and stopped by NoteBook Depot (www.notebookdepot.com) and checked out their ACERs. They said that ACER is discontinuing the 2020, which is the latest version of the 2012. Don't despair as ACER is always replacing it with something else and something better. You should double check to see if this really is the case. I've bought from NoteBook Depot before and found them to be quite good. They're one of the few places in Toronto that you can actually view an ACER laptop in retail setting (trying out the keyboard, etc.) rather than ordering online. Keep in mind that a lot of Canadian vendors can order in an ACER: you should probably phone or email around to save a lot of traveling if you have decided on a set model.

As far as the M6 goes...i'm sure you can find a place to buy it barebones and buy all the components to build yourself, or have someone build it to your specs. so yes, you can get DVD burner, 60 gig HD, upto 2gig RAM etc. the M6BNe and M6Ne have the ati9700 64MB (the lowercase e denotes this). you might even be able to get a nice WSXGA screen, which isn't available in the U.S. i dunno.
