Occaisonal freezeing

Hi Guys and Gals,

I have a 5690, only had it for 2 weeks and am very pleased with it. But I hope you can help me resolve an issue.

Sometimes when the computer is relatively idle i get small 'freezes' for a second or so and then jumps to the position it should have moved to under normal operation. This behaviour contines into games abd becomes annoying when I die in CAll of Duty!!!!!!

I have been using an external usb mouse and thought this could have been the cause but I also see it when I use the touchpad.

Any Ideas????

Thanks

Craig

happenes to my desktop too. I think it has something to do with over heating. not to sure though id have to look more into it.
does this only happen when you're online? if so, then it's a little thing called "lag" ... and it's t3h su><0r and you can't do nutin bout it

if it happens all the time, then it might be overheating, but make sure you have the latest/most stable drivers.

I downloaded the latest drivers and have them installed...should i try Omega video drivers rather than the ATI ones?

It happens when i am on line and offline.

When you say it could be a heat issue...would that not transfer onto games....i tend not to see a drop in performance with games...just get the same problem. Is their a problem with my hardware that I need sorted?

Do I need to sed my 5690 back????

my 8790 would have constant pauses like every 5 min or less...
At first I thought it was the mouse, but it was the whole system cause while gaming it would do that too....
I fixed mine by setting the wireless card setting, because i was only using 11mbps connection, It was set for all three 11mbps, 54mbps, and turbo.....
and Ive also heard from one of Gs threads that a TV Tuner card and tv-tuner software combination or cpu clocking software (I dun remember) can do that too....

are you using a cpu clocking utility like mobile meter???
I leave mine on all the time and I think G said he did too until that propblem occured...

That sounds like it could be a good idea Hentai,

Dont have a TV-Tuner...but what did you do to change the Wireless setting??

Not using any cpu clocking software...ill lok at wireless network when i get home. Is it a setting in windows? or in the BIOS??

do you use the utiltiy or have windows do it for you?

actually before doing this you might want to disable your wireless card and run some games or just watch it for a min to see if thats the case...

If you use the utility you have to modify your profile settings.
1) Opent the utility
2) click the config tab
3) click your profile
4) click the modify button
5) window should pop up, click the advanced tab
6) just check wich box your currently using and uncheck the rest.

I have been using windows to control my wireless network...but i will change to the application if it is better. I will disable it and check it over make sure it is the cause.

If it is i think i will do a full reinstall while my system is not full of documents etc

Thanks for your help...but one last thing, the app or windows?? which is better?
I always seem to use the apps that they come with, because they have more options and usually give info about your connection, noise levels, connection strenght and such....

I don't like the windows utility, too simple and not enough info...
Yuck!!!

I have a very similar problem, probably the same. It sometimes "freezes" every few seconds, and sometimes it doesn't. It is one of the drivers, but I don't know which one. It has something to do with either the ethernet, wireless, or AMD PowerNow! processor drivers. Does anyone have this problem using an intel processor? that would narrow it down to ethernet/wireless drivers. I disable the wireless/ethernet/powernow! drivers and the problem is solved, but even when they are all on the problem doesn't ALWAYS occur, just sometimes. So hard to track down.

hmmm...

yoblin,

I have an Intel P4 chip and find the same as you..when i disable wireless/ethernet the performance improves and the stuttering stops.

Hope we can find an end to this problem

take it no one else has this problem...it is so annoying and am thinking about RMA'ing

Please Help im doing too much
don't RMA, it isn't a hardware problem. It's just one of the ehternet/wireless drivers. I am fairly cerftain it is the ethernet driver, as I am typing this on wireless and there is no stutter. (ethernet is disabled)

you have the Realtek RTL8169/8110 Gigabit Ethernet NIC? Lets try updating drivers...

ftp://210.51.181.211/cn/nic/rtl8169rtl8169sbrtl8110sb/windows-rtlnic(616).zip

I'll install and report back, maybe it will help.

From the way you're describing it, it sounds like exactly what I had. Every minute or two, I would get a slight pause on the computer, especially when any audio way playing. I had guessed that it was an audio problem so I changed everything I could find, drivers, etc. I even went out and bought a Creative Soundblaster MP3+ (Which is a nice addition, I might add), and nothing fixed the problem. I didn't want to format the computer and lose all of my stuff so what I did was repaired the XP installation from the CD. I previously tried just doing a normal restore but didn't have any luck. I popped in the XP install CD and let it boot from there. From there, I chose to repair the installation of XP already on the computer. It seemed like it deleted and then reinstalled most of my drivers and system files, took a few minutes. When I booted back up again, the problem dissapeared. So I never really knew exactly what was causing it, but it wasn't a hardware problem. Best I can figure is there was a problem with a system file or driver somewhere.

ok...so that seems to have worked but also it has affected some of my dll's by the looks of things...error messages when right click my computer>properties

I will do a full reinstall later rather than a repair job
