Need Recommendations on Purchasing a laptop

Currently I am looking at getting acer ferrari 3200 and from what I read in reviews looks like good gaming notebook. Are there other models I should be looking at? I am in the market for amd 64 processor and ati 9700 or higher.

Sager 4750 from pctorque have a amd 64 processor and ati mobility radeon 9700 video card.

just fyi you would be better off posting questions in the notebook general section of these forums--> see much more results there probably

What's your budget? What screen size and resolution do you want/need? When I think AMD 64 bit and Mobility Radeon 9700 the Hypersonic AX7 is the first system that comes to mind.

Little over $2000

The Sager NP 4750 series has an Athlon 64 bit processor, a 17" WSXGA+ display and a Mobility Radeon 9700 with 128MB VRAM... all for a price fo $2045 (before tax).

I haven't read that many positive reviews on the Acer Ferrari and I'm therefore a bit reluctant to recommend it.

Actually, check out the Ferrari 3200 review by ebonix and adam on this forum. They like it. I think most ferrari 3200 are extremely happy with their system and the decision to buy it. I am. The only problem is ACERs cust svc. Hopefully you wont need it, but if you have to, they will give in if you push them enough.

I highly recommend the ferrari, especially if you don't want a widescreen.

I saw lots of positive reviews and comments before getting my own. It serves its purpose, all games so far run flawlessly (mainly PlanetSide and Tribes: Vengeance for me), but you do have to increase the memory it comes with. I specifically didn't want widescreen. Of course, now there are more alternatives than there used to be.

Once you go widescreen, you never go back they say, and it's true for me. the 4750 is the l33t AMD64 lappy right now, and it's at a really good price for what you get.

Dunno, I went to a store and tested the widescreens, and they were just totally repulsive to me.

Same here, especially since I never play any movies on my laptop and I think non-widescreen apps look weird on a widescreen display too. Most 15" widescreen laptops only support max 1280x800 resolution, and I find that poor compared to 1400x1050 on the Ferrari.

If you don't want a widescreen get a 5690 from PCTorque. I have had mine for a few weeks now and love it to death. I got it for 2280$ (that includes shipping and tax) and the little powerhouse runs any game I throw at it like a champ. You can read my review here.
