Full Size Drives in 8886 - Page 2

It connects with the standard connector for internal drives in the 8886.... I imagine it is EIDE or some varient of it for lappies.

i wonder if you could Raid them ? any idea?
Ha, lol, that would be SWEET. :-) Three drives... Raid5 all the way... I have no idea; I'll have to check on that... I have two drives in the 8886 I have now, I'll look into the feasability of it.

i will start a new thread regarding a replacement for the tv tuner as good as the one in the 8886..i mean why stop here : i want 3 hd and still be able to watch tv

beebster, i've got the drive already. i was using it on a small linux installation on a p3-750 that has since been taken over by my mother, so now the drive sits bare and lonely on my desk. whether or not the 8mb cache is effective over firewire is not really that big of a deal. 7200 even with 2mb cache has never presented any problems for me

i don't use protools, i use cubase sx.

jahlove what audio card are you using?
right now i m using my old but still faithfull 1212 korg with my ADAT setup ( i use the ADAt as my A > D to track my keyboard to cubase)
.. i hate it now because korg will not release a stupid driver for it to run under 2000 or XP... i will never buy another korg product again ( i still love my korg WS A/D a lot thank you very much :-)

i will upgrade it to the RME multiface with the cardbus to go with the 8886 when i ll get the cash. > its compact and e z to carry with a laptop and sounds amazing and has amazing low < 6ms to go with all thoses sweet VST instruments...:-)
although i will check the Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882 to also, but i don t think it has a driver for Wintel machine yet..oh well..

how about you? what are you using as far as audio card?

I have a Motu 2408mkIII for my Dual 500 mac and am getting an RME PCMIA
Card with the DigiFace expansion. This will allow me 24 channels of audio
and 32 channels of midi on my laptop which I will be using for vst instruments
only. I am tempted now to still get the 8886 for the 2nd PCMIA card so I could add the Magma and have the ability to expand my ststem with regular
IDE (7200) drives. This would make the ultimate desktop replacement.

exatly ( and nice setup by the way)

how's the firewire HD in general with audio? do you know if it is it up to it? i m planning to take the magma route also

LoL, I believe you use a bracket for the inner parenthesis if I can still remember my language skills class. But heck, we arn't talkin about english, were talkin about computers so in that case, ...

System.out.print("(Who cares if we use(nested parenthesis))");

LoL

Firewire drives are fine for audio. I've got a Ratoc "Firedock" Dual Removable
Hardrive bay (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/firewire...emcaskit2.html).
I did a 16track session at 24bit on one drive with a Motu 896 (firewire) interface powered by a G4 500mhz laptop. Nothing compared to the 8886
I just ordered so you should be fine with whatever you decide to get. Just
make shure the seek time is low.

Wow, I'm so lost reading those posts about audio stuff... There's so incredibly much to learn :-) Keep up the excellent dialogue!

Can't wait to benchmark the two drives in the 8886 I have... I'll compare them to my desktop 7200 rpm hard drive.
