cheapa, i have no idea how to mod those lights. you'd have to take the lcd trim off and see how they work.
changing ram doesn't void warranty, and more ram will always make your machine faster. 768mb would definitely be enough to copy dvds and edit photos... but 1280 would make it even faster.
