Core Specs:

Area-51m Saucer Silver
16.1" UltraXGA
3.2GHz
1024MB DDR PC-3200
60GB 7200
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Module with 128MB DDR (Upgraded from FX go5600) . . .and what a difference it makes. . .
CD-RW/DVD Combo
Mini PCI Wireless a/b/g
Klipsch Pro Media 2.1
Logitech Mx510

Oh and I forgot, a Fancy Mousepad!

I'm a huge fan of Nvidia but alas there was no Alienware solution other than the 5700, so I succumbed to the power of the Ati. And so far I have been pleasently suprised. Those Canadians know their 3D http://notebookforums.com/newreply.php#
lol

BTW Counter-Strike Source Beta Rocks!

I'm curious too. Did you purchase it or was it a replacement?

Hmmm... there's a thought. OC the hell of the GPU and blow it out. AW would have to send you a 9700 since the 9600's are no longer available.

I bet they still have some 9600's, they just aren't available for new lappers...gotta have them on hand for warranty's sake.

E-mail Answer Is overclocking going to damage my computer?

Question
Is overclocking going to damage my computer?

Answer
Due to the fact that the internal components and chips in your computer are designed to work at certain clock speeds, it is possible that overclocking may end up damaging your system or parts of it. This also a risk of shortening the lifespan of your computer as a whole, as well as system stability.

Keep in mind that if you overclock your Alienware system, Alienware is not going to be responsible for any damages caused by it, and it will be completely at your own risk.

I called Alienware a week ago and told them I had an Area-51m and was looking for an upgrade. I asked what the current best Mobile video card was and the Rep told me the 9800. I asked him for clarification and he put me on hold. He came back and told me he was sorry it was the 9700 only. I said I'll take it.

Arrived at my house 4 days later.

I was in as much disbelief (thinking AW had sent me a Area-51 desktop card by mistake) but to my suprise the mobile card was in the packaging and the model number was A9700 something, something. Put the baby in and it runs fine. (although I did call to update the BIOS to 1.16.36) Grand total out the door AND shipped

$195.73

Whether or not that my Notebook is a revision 2.0 they nonetheless sold me the card. As I have noted I am a "Long time Lurker, First time poster" and have seen others try this. So I gave it a shot and was rewarded.
