Okay, so many of you know I'm currently on the neverending quest for the perfect laptop. I was very interested in the W1N but I wanted a Dothan processor and 7K60 HDD. Startech pc offers a configurable W1N, but there has been much controversy regarding whether this voids the Asus global warranty or not.
So I called Richard Huang (sp?) in the notebook division with Asus and he called went to Startech's website and consulted with his manager. The answer? Yes and No.
The parts you change: HDD, processor, whatever are NOT covered under the warranty
The remaining parts ARE covered, such as the motherboard, wifi, and LCD unless, of course, the problem was created by your swap.
Lastly, the warranty would only be good in the USA. No "international" anymore.
So if you switch to Dothan (or even upgrade the GPU I suppose) and your LCD goes bad, you're NOT SOL (unless your traveling abroad when it happens). Hope this helps...
