Still debating on a few final options. I can get the Sony for $2275 CDN of a friend of a friend (on sonystyle.ca site for $2799) http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...09n32160n47540
The acer (AS2012WLMi)

can be had for $2188 through a local shop in the area. Curious as to what everyone thinks aabout comparing the two. I realize the Sony is expensive at 2800, but it is a very nice machine for 2200. Let me know what you think.

You basically get the X Brite but lose the 9700 when going with the Sony. At prices that close, I'd take the Xbrite.

Edited: Gotta get my eyes checked.

D'oh! *slaps forehead*

Ok, I say go for the Acer, its a lot lighter than the Sony and you won't have a problem upgrading the hard drive. X-brite isn't too big a trade off (for me) to a lighter notebook with a better video card, dvd burner, and a more accessible hard drive that you can replace.

what? he's looking at the sony vaio A series, not S series (wxga on 13.3'').

personally i'm not a fan of xbrite (too reflective in low-lighting situations) so i'd take the acer for the better graphics card, less weight, smaller size, probably better battery life.

the specs on both are pretty similar other than the screens and video cards. Although as was mentioned it would most likely be harder to upgrade the sony based on their track record. Might have to take another look at the two and see which screen I prefer
