Ensuring that my data is gone from laptop...

Interestingly enough, I did not prepare for the future. I have a laptop from work/partnership. The partnershi dissolved and part of the dissolution agrees that I return my main laptop. I have a lot of data on it. I can get it all off, but that is the question. How do I ensure that I get all of my data off the laptop. I can't unintall the OS (win2000). I am goint to remove my user but....

It is somewhat important as there is my work product and contacts on the laptop. I am taking those clients and that work with me and do not want it left for anyone to see. Here is an example. I had Outlook, and OE(newsgroups, email accounts). I deleted the pst files etc and all of the OE data but I did not delete the address book... hmmmm

Thanks for any thoughts/ideas.

Matt

maybe i'm missing something, but is there any reason you can't just reformat?

He said he cant uninstall the os. Do not manually delete your files!!!! Defragment your hard drive, get a file-shredding program, and shred all of those documents. That's the best you can do without wiping the drive.

Maybe you could offer to buy out the laptop, to save the hassle?

Get Cyberscrub. There is a 15 day free trail and it has better than Department of Defense shredding. Wipe the drive with this and it won't matter who gets ahold of it.

Orion Joel: Latop is an older Sager (Clevo 2200T) and has worked great but the partner wants over $1000. We use laptops for training purposes... so they have some value.

JimmyMac: Good link. Thank you. I use SpyBot to shred the data that I was concerned about and went along my merry way deleting Internet explorer fiels etc.... CyberScrub found over an absolute huge amount of data and scrubbed it all. I wouldhave never found all of those files.

Thank you and good link
