I agree completely with PCTorque's comments. Offtopic can be a nice diversion for a community however it also can garner some of the problems PCTorque mentioned along with attracting unsavory folks who have nothing better to do than troll message boards. You also have to consider bandwidth. On a number of boards I frequent offtopic uses up 50% or more of the boards entire bandwidth. I'm not sure what PCTorque's bandwidth is for this board however this can add up and cost money to maintain. If there is to be an offtopic board I suggest placing certain guidlines in as well to avoid some the incessant banter that eventually plague these types of boards. Moderation would also be key in maintaining civil arguments and prevent them from spilling over to other boards.
With all that in mind I think some type of "offtopic/lounge" area could be a nice addition. The folks on this board are well mannered and more than civilized in handling disputes. I don't forsee a real problem emerging right away but as this forum grows so does it's diversity.
