Almost everyone here uses MobileMeter. Of course, there are some other ones but this seems to be the most popular utility at the moment.

Mine seems to idle at 45C. I wonder if I'm blocking a vent or something.

OK, I just did a big compile job. The CPU got up to 68C running at 2GHz for several minutes, but the HDD only went to 46C. I guess with 2G of RAM and XP tweaked to favor the filesystem cache, the disk doesn't have to work very hard.

I'm at 44C right now on my 7200rpm in my 4750. it used to stay around 54C but my heat pipe cooler seems to work really well!

My Acer Travelmate 800 LCi at work runs almost constantly at 55-56 C, and the left palm area is HOT! It's got a 4200 rpm drive, although Acer sold it as having a 5400 rpm drive.

I'll add that the HDD temperature when the computer is IDLE is 53 C. I sent the computer to maintenance when I first got it, and they said that there is nothing wrong with it. They told that all TM800s run as hot.

That would have been a good advice. Too bad, it happened already a year ago.

I just got a Targus USB Powered Notebook Chill mat, and it's brought my HD temp down from 45C to 37C. It seems to have had zero effect on my CPU temp though. (Which is why I'm posting this note here on this HDD thread.) This mat has two fans that sucks air in from the top of the mat (i.e., between the mat and the laptop) and blow out the back of the mat. It may be kind of counterproductive since I think the Asus sucks air in from below too, that's probably why it's not helping cool the CPU. But my lap feels nice and cool now...
