what to do

I am going to college in mid august and need a laptop by then. I am just about to get the 5670-v, but i was wondering if it would be worth it to wait for the 5680. I am not a heavy gamer, but i would be doing a lot of downloading/listening to music and using school related programs and stuff like that. Should I wait or would it really not be worth the wait/ price to get the upcoming model as a light gamer. Thanks.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but if you "wait" because something better is coming, you'll never buy a computer, because something better is always coming. There's really no reason NOT to buy the 5670 now. It is, afterall, only a month old!

Yes there is always something around the corner that is better, but the performance increase that is comming with the 9600 and the 800mhz fsb pentiums and the faster 400mhz ram is not a common event in the computer world. Your getting improvements in the top three areas of computing and if the new sager has a better screen and the 7200 rpm hard drives your getting a boost in everything that I consider imporatant for a computer. If you get it now your going to be kicking yourself when the new ones come out.

im really itching to get a laptop. would i REALLY notice enough of a difference to make it worth the wait and possibly not even being able to get it after all if its not out by the time i leave for school. I know for people who are hardcore gamers and for those who are real experts on computers, they will notice a difference, but would it really matter to me.

billme -- no, it won't make any difference at all if you're using spreadsheets, serfin da net, or whatever minor things that most people do on computers. The games that will make use of the new cards aren't even out yet either (laf). And if you're not doing animation or anything of that sort, it only emphasizes that you don't need to wait.

But why bother with a $2500+ in the first place if you're not doing any of the above? Save the cash in my opinion, unless you're a gadget freak who wants the best for the sake of telling your friends

edit -- you can do most of the stuff you're suggesting on computers that are years old (download music and run general school progs -- I used a 350 mhz Mac for that in college)
