Should I send it back?

I got a question. I just received my 8600 a week or two ago and I was wondering if this is an acceptable amount of light leakage or if I should send it back to DELL. I just want to make sure this is normal before my 21 day gurantee is up. thx for the input.

nah, really doesn't look too bad to me. it looks like the camera is over exposing the pic a little (judging by the background).

thanx for the help so far. i could definately use a few more opinions though so feel free. the camera may be over exposing a little but its not far off. and believe me i'm not looking for something to be wrong, because it'll be a pain in the ass to go without it as its my main comp here at college. thx though and kkep the opinions rollin.

post a screenshot of your system while running the 3D Flying objects screensaver. Snap the pic with the object toward the top of the screen and we will be better able to tell you

oh and without the white box too....

If you can live with the amount of light leakage shown and everything else works Ok then I would keep the computer. Your exchange could be worse or better.

Yeah, fairly normal I wouldn't worry overly much about it unless you're another paranoid

ohhh lol my mistake!! that actual white box on the laptop screen was actually by camera box right?
I would get it fixed. If you watch movies on your laptop, it would be quite annoying. I have a little bit of light leakage, and it is a bit annyoing, but I have very little.

Get it fixed. They may offer you a deal of getting some money off the laptop or free extras because it will cost them more to replace the display than to give you a discount. good luck!

hey is it just me, cos my light leakage totally disappeared after 1 month, strange...

Maybe I haven't had my sixth cup of coffee today yet, but I don't see crap as far as light leakage goes in that pic. People that are telling you to send it back must be looking at a different pic than I am. Try posting somemore.

p.s. stu, will it ever end?

Nope, it will keep going unfortunately... Que sera, sera. And I fully agree, that amount is small and perfectly normal, you would have a hard time getting one better than that if you kept replacing it.

Mine is less than the one in the picture. I must have a good one. Complain anyway and see what they saw. I read some people got some extras/cash off their system for complaining. can't hurt. You don't have to go through with the replacement if that is what they decide to do anyway.

Can someone explain me what's wrong here? I'm noob u know...
Do you all mean the white thingy???
Mr. White I offer you one of the best bits of advice I can bestow upon one who is new to these parts:

NOTHING is wrong with that pic. The white box is due to the overexposure of the picture. They are hunting for ideas and demons that plagued the board a while back. If this is to cryptic ask stu(sakor1) he may be willing to further clarify, I myself wash my hands of this..this..******* fiasco.

The power of Christ compels you light leakge The power of Christ compels you!

That seems pretty minimal to me. I have at least twice more light leakage than that and I find that acceptable. However, some are really finiky about it. Just keep in mind that having NO light leakage is not typical. So if you are going to be mailing it back you stand a good chance of getting something with the same amount of light leakage and probably equal chances of getting something worse or better. Also throw into the mix that you may start getting screens with dead/stuck pixels, too.

If you don't notice it 99.9% of the time, then I wouldn't worry about it. I don't notice my light leakage at all and I'm extremely happy with my laptop. (Many thanks to those on here who helped me make my decision.)

Once again, thx. I'm gonna take the advice posted earlier about the screen shot and screen saver. So I will post another few pics tonight (got classes untill 6) and perhaps that will help in your analysis.
