My 4750 Blacks out - Page 2

Hey all, I just got mine today. I was setting up the camera and the screen froze. I had to hard boot because the fuggin thing wouldn't let me do anything else. Now I can't even boot up. I hit the on button, it comes on but just makes a series of beeping noises and the screen is black....any ideas?

its okay if you get to 95 C. that's the hottest it can get. It was up to 77 when benchmarking overclocked. As long as you allow it to cool down properly you should be ok. But I wouldn't recommend doing something that raises the temperature over 70 for a long period of time.

GAAAHHH! Not you too!?! That same thing happend to me. I had to send mine back. Wow, that's exactly my problem. I hope you live closer to the City of Industry, CA than I do, shipping's a killer from VA!

I had that happen a few times but I was always able to reboot afterwards and it hasn't done it since I got my cooler so now I don't think I have to send it in, it was probably just overheating.

That was the main problem of it. I bet your laptops weren't raised at least an inch up in the back. This stopped my overheating problems from the start.

This happened to me too fellas.
It froze (no black screen though) so I did hard reboot. It posted bios, but then the little curser icon just blinked in the upper left of the screen and nothing happened, didn't initialize HD or anything. I went into the bios, chose the reset to default config option, save&exit. Then I unplugged from wall, let it sit for 10 seconds, then booted up and plugged back in. This reset the bios and now it works. I think the bios became corrupted and wouldn't load the OS. I couldn't even boot from my XP cd either...weird.

spankinztine, what did they say the problem was? I'm curious if I've only found a temporary solution and I can look forward to it permanently failing on me in the future.

Mine wouldnt even post.

I wonder if it's a hardware problem or the bios getting hosed...maybe they should release another update...
mayaman, are you using the revised bios? the one released a few days after the 4750 was released? cuz i assume that all of us who have had issued with ours have laptops with the newer bios, but you, so far have lucked out and have a perfectly fine 4750. That might shed some light on whether the bios is to blame.

And letting the laptop get to hot was definately not the reason for my most recent 4750 death. I was checking mobile meter every minute to every few minutes when I experienced my first crash. The cpu never got above 55c and the hd never above 50. Each following crash was a matter of seconds after booting up. Definately not a heat issue for me.

Those are pretty hot temperatures. if its idling. Mine gets that hot in an unaced room playing music and solitare. Yes I did get the revised bios which was released just before my laptop was built.
how do you know which version of the bios you have?
I have the newer bios and, even with my computer on the metal art junior stand with holes in the bottom for ventillation, it still locks up now and then (screen freezes, no cursor, nothing responds (can't even get keyboard lights to change). This just happened at 50* C. I have a fishy feeling about some of the hardware in these units being unstable.
It just locked up and forced a hard reboot at 48*C again. I'm going to leave SageTV closed (it was recording in sleep mode) to see if that was causing it.
Ok, I think those were lockups caused by SageTV. I've done a fresh install of sage (deleted program folder after uninstall) and it works fine now.

If any of you guys find out what that boot problem was I'd be curious to know...keeping my fingers crossed for now.
I think my lockups are due to overheating. I've changed my power settings to always on to keep the fans on and so far no problems. I think you guys should try that as well before sending your machines in
post #36 of 55
I think what they need to do is come out with a bios update that allows us to select fan settings so we can make it more aggressive if necessary.

My lockups can happen at 45*C though so I'm not sure if it's heat. I think it's more likely SageTV than my system. Hopefully I can figure it out.

4750

I was also experiencing problems until I set my power settings to always on. Can't wait for my as5 to get here. I found that you can do a hard shutdown by holding the power button down for 5 - 7 seconds.
yes, all 4750 owners should use the "always on" option when they're plugged in otherwise it is almost certain that your machine will crash, it's just a matter of when (usually a few hours for me). Don't use the laptop/portable setting unless you're on battery. Trust me on this one.

my 4750 keeps crashing when watching tv, goes to blue screen quickly, then reboots, and then i get a report that a serious error has occured. tried re-installing avermedia drivers and software, when asked to install directx 8.1 i say no because ati puts on 9 already, right? doesn't seem like the computer is too hot (getting mobilemeter soon)?

You should turn off automatic restart under startup and recovery in in My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Automatically Restart, under system failure.
