Service Pack 2

Thread Starter
Anyone having a problem since installing service pack 2??

I cant use my function keys... my m6805 locks up.
It is also locking up for random other reasons... I have never had such issues with this computer, in fact.. its been really good (minus an issue with the screen).

Anyone know what might be causing this?

m6805 has BIOS issues with SP2. Updating the BIOS will remedy it, but will void your warranty.

Thunder,

I have a stock 6809 with the standard BIOS. Know of any problems with putting SP2 on my machine.

Although I'm not Thunder, I've been running SP2 on a stock m6809 since some of the earlier betas and have not had any incompatiblity issues. HTH

Same experience here calbear. I have now changed to the m6811 BIOS, but I did run SP2 betas with no problems before doing so. I would base my decision on the SP2 update on Charlie's experience though, since he is still stock. The only machines that should exhibit the problem are those with the early BIOS (0f02.p00?). I don't think any of even the earliest m6809 machines had that BIOS. Most m6805 and some m6807 will be found with it.

Oops I should have mention that I have been using the Arima 0F07.P00A / 05-20-04 BIOS for the past month. I agree with Thunder that unless your BIOS is 0F02.P00 or earlier you should not have any hardware incompatibility issues.

Charlie and Thunder,

Thanks for the info and the advise. Since I am running 0F05.P00, I should be good to go. BTW, what are the advantages of upgrading to the newer BIOS? Also, since I have the three year BB warranty, if I were to upgrade is there a way to go back to the old BIOS?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, I had the original 0F02.P00 bios, and was having problems with SP2, just completed flashing bios to the Arima W730-K8 DTR (0F07.P00A 5-24-04 Bios), and all seems to be running fine at this time, still loading software.

I will try to get back and report any problems if any.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions on flashing. It seems to work fine, and I am glad I have gotten it done.

Everything is Great after Bios update.

I have loaded different Applications and Games, and all are working without issue with SP2, whereas I was having much difficulty before flash.

I'm a happy camper.....

M6810 here
SP2 installed with absolutely no problems, everything works as before, including the shortcut keys. Haven't touched the BIOS.
One small exception. Ever since SP2, my wireless card is disabled by default @ startup. I like it better that way though.

I really don't know what fix that SP2 could have that would fix your problem, if you need to flash your bios. I don't understand why a bios flash fixed my eMachines M6805 to work with SP2, but it did.

If you own the M6805, then it probably has the 0F02.P00 bios, and in my case and several others that have posted in these forums, flashing to the 0F07.P00 bios fixed it.

I have yet to see any bugs in SP2 either since RC2. The final release has operated flawlessly on many machines I have installed it to. The only problems I have seen have been hardware based (such as the BIOS problems).

I have one small bug with both my notebook (M6809) and desktop. When not in use, the mouse pointer will start drifting off to the edge of the screen.

Never had this problem with either pc before SP2, and haven't found a solution yet either, though I have seen reports of it happening to others since SP2 was installed.

I will certify that the 6805 bios is a total POS. After flashing with the 6809 bios these were fixed:

1) Hit power button = instant reboot. now it shuts off right
2) No use of the top function keys (not Fn keys). fixed

Ok, I can't get the AMD A64 driver to stall. Neither the newest from their site nor the driver that came with the laptop will install. It always says that a file could not be found.

I realized that it's not whining about the driver being unsigned. Does SP2 have something going on here? Do any of you have powernow working? This thing is just stuck at 1.8 not matter if it's on AC or battery.

It's not a driver problem. The driver installs on SP2. Something else must be wrong with your system.
