12'' sentia quick review

ok, i just got my sentia from fed ex it took exactly one month
anyway there were a few probems, mainly the ship date as i am leaving for college tomorrow, also no tracking number was provided so that was a hassle

on to the notebook. packaging is great, unit looks amazing. it seems to be a little bigger than i thought. it is definately talller than 1 inch in most spots, not a big deal. set up is extremely easy. the keyboard is very typical of ultraportables. it is like a smoked transparent colour that makes it look black from different angles the unit does tend to get hot. others have been saying the opposite but i have the sentia sitting next to my old sony pcg-f650k and where your wrists go are begining to get very hot
the battery life is amazing. the notebook feels very solid. well, except for the flimsy latch and release for the screen, it wont make it past christmas break probably. display is incredible.
i thought my old sony display was good but there is no comparison, it is very brite and very shinny (no glares here htough)
the power cinema dvd is a great idea, in theory. first it does not come on the computer, so i called aw and they said i would have to reformat everythingand it could take upwards of 2 hrs. i dont have time as i am leaving for college tomorrow and there is so much to do. anyway the cd drive is tad flimsy and is not flush with the rest of the notebook. the button is badly placed and easily puhsed
the usb port for thumbdrives is great.
the power button does not stop flashing and i sleep with it open, the good news though, the eyes in the back go off when the screen goes off so i can just close the screen to sleep windows silent power mode is difficult to figure out. but battery life is great anyway. THE TOUCHBAD BLOWS for about the first 2 hours. first, it is not recessed enough so it is very easy to mistakenly hit and move the cursor, second, it is rough and not easily moved. i know these contradict but this is tough to say. the buttons are a tad firm but i know they will get better with age
wireless works great
im sorry about not having a picture as my camera is packed already
anyways it seems pretty good, i will try to add more and edit this review over the next several days, but i believe that i will be very busy with college and al
also, it says that there are 4 stereo speakers and a built in microphone so far, with limited tests, i could only use 2 speakers and no microphone. this is strange as i can find 4 speakers and the microphone very easy. however, my sony had a built in mic that never worked either, the computer also goes from totally silent to making fan noise louder than my sony, however it is only when it is used.
if anyone has any help for me for any of these issues, it would be greatly appreciated.
overall, it is almost worth it, i would check out the dell 700m as well, even though the battery life is worse, it has the same dimmensions with a dvd-rw dirve and is cheaper, i think it might be the same case, no ****
anyway it seems like it will be a great computer for college, just as long as it no more problems sproout as these now are not big problems and can be worked through
once again, thank you for your support and i hope you enjoy my article

btw: sentia 12.1" intel 745, 512 (x256)mb, 80 gb hd (5400), 3 year waranty, xp pro (not sp2 as thought)

Nice review, just the facts - nice and concise.

Good luck at college.

Fyi .. on the touchpad issue ...

I found the touchpad too sensitive. I downloaded from the AW site the Synaptics Touchpad driivers for the older Sentia and guess what ... they work great. I can now adjust the sensitivity so that my wrist movements no longer make the cursor jump all over the place.

Not sure why this wasn't distributed with the new Sentia anyway.

update:
the 4 speakers are really only 2, which is not cool
the microphone is just for show
notebook is hot all over
power button does not stop blinking

computer is no comlaints above these, very quick, responsive, and the display is one of the best that i have ever seen
i will work on the above issues
also, the touchpad was reduced in sensitivity and now does not move when i type however it still is kind of touchy and i am not used 2 it yet after 2 weeks

The Mic will work... but you may have to boost it, some other sentia owners will chime in how, but the sentia is only supposed to have 2 speakers I'm pretty sure.

do you know how to boost it, also, why are there what seems to be four speakers and i read or saw somewhere i believe that there were 4 speakers, its not important because i have the computer hooked up to my 5.1 stereo
any other sentia owners with help or comments please

The Area51m with the 15.4" screen is outfitted with 4 speakers...not the Sentia.

nice review, i also just got an imac for college today, i thought being that it's Labor day there would be a sale, at least some rebate. But the guy at compusa said all the prices for apple products are fixed.

Nice machine! I just got a Dell 700m (which is very similar), and was wondering if anyone with a 12" sentia would like to do some comparisons with benchmarks? Please PM me if you have one, and we could do some comparing.
