I think the 8790 is still quite capable of cooling a chip like the x800 (which might be more than 8 pipes). The 9790 or whatever its called should be available in the next couple of months.
and even if it isn't, PCT could just throw in a complementary heatpipe...
mayasonic could.

I thought..atleast on ATI's side of it..that the X800 is designed to shut down in essence parts of the card its not using.. This is suppose to save battery life and I would imagine also heat.. From what I've read, PCIE runs cooler, not hotter then AGP cards... As to the new cards not being a big leap over a MR9800.. Im not sure what Dellayed is smoking. An 8 pipe card versus a 12 or 16 pipeline card is going to be a hell of a leap....but if you don't feel this way.. buy what you will..and sit back and drool over the PCIE benchmarks over the next year..

Don't get a Dell.

It doesn't matter if AGP isn't fully utilized yet, they won't be making any more AGP cards (*maybe* one more, but that's it) and you can't upgrade them anyway. PCI-E is the new tech and a new stuff sells. AGP died this summer. If you can wait, hold out for the Sager 9790 or 9000 or w/e it's gonna be called because that laptop will have all of the goodies ( 17" WUXGA+, raid HD's, tv-tuner, camera, etc.) and will be almost definitely be using the PCI-E version of the M9800 or better. If you're worried about cooling, quit bitchin. there's nothing you can do about the heat from any new lappy nowadays except getting a cooler and some as5. They wouldn't be able to sell the laptop if the heat was too much of a problem anyway.

Even if Dell comes out with a similar system with the new PCI-E card and all the goodies of the new Sager, I would still get the Sager because it will probably be cheaper and you will be dealing with a much better company for customer support (Sager + PCT = no worries).

that's my .02, and if I didn't need a lappy immediately, I'd spend the rest of my cents on the new Sager, Dell sux

That and Sager has always known what Gamers want..Where as Dell is jumping in to make a quick buck off a major untapped market..

exactly, the only reason knowledgeable people are buying the Dells is for the 9800 card. The Sagers have Dell beat everywhere else.

And those of us that know Sager know this is only temporary...why else would Sager skip the x600..they are going to maintain what they are known as..the portable power people

???

I was wondering what orgethebuffoon was talking about until I saw the title of the thread. Sort of went off topic about page three. Yeah Dell sucks monkey balls. Get the sager.

It's really funny to read these freaky comments:

It sounds like we are not talking about computers but about marriage or something like that. I do not care whether it's an Acer, a Dell, a Toshiba, a Sager or a Sony. I will always buy the best computer which is currently available. No brand will always produce the best computer at any given time.

Moreover, you should not assume that you can buy Sager notebooks from pctorque everywhere in the world. Unfortunately ...

Btw.: Does anybody have RELIABLE information that either the next mobile PCI-E ATI or Nvidia chip will have 12 or even 16 pipes?
I don't have any specific info, but the next wave of mobile cards will almost definitely be 8 pipes

i agree with you on the "buying the best available" motto, but if you buy the dell, you are buying into an old, almost-outdated, almost-obsolete technology (s478, DDR1, AGP, etc.), whereas if you wait a couple months and go with the Sager, you will be on the crest of the new wave in technology with all of the new interfaces/whatever (LGA775, DDR2, PCI-E, etc.), and therefore guaranteeing upgradeability in the future. and furthermore, like Ogre said, do you really want to buy a Dell?

As for the Sager + PCT slight, there are plenty of other international sager resellers you know...

and also, if the mr9800 had 8 pipes, i would assume the M28 (PCI-E version of the card, to be followed up by a pro version later) will have at least that many, if not more as it will still be based on the R420 (aka x800) core, while the NV41m will be based on the desktop NV40/41, which is the geforce 6800 (which has 12/16 pipes), so i would think that there is a good chance of the next ATI and Nvidia cards having 12-16 pipelines in them.

Thread Starter

Patience is a virtue... Camping time...

Hi guys,
thanks for the advice and opinions. I am going to camp (wait in gaming terms) until Sager comes out the next generation laptops. Its a win-win solution for me to wait. But I need to get it before Thanksgiving so hopefully Sager releases the laptops soon. I bet they will, they can't miss the December sales spree (some retailers get 50% sales in Nov, Dec).
Happy gaming ,
John

I hate camping. It deserves a good knock over the head with a shovel.
