Buying new laptop: Sager 8790 or Dell XPS? Any thoughts? - Page 4

well, if you have a crapton of cash, theres savrow but seriously, just google (.co.uk, of course, and usee the "only pages in the uk" function) for sager reseller and you'll get loads of matches. good luck!

???

You should tryout your advice before giving it to others. I did exactly what you said but I didn't get "loads of matches". I already have savrow in my sights but thier options for the 5690 (they call it the Katana SX) are very limited (2x dvd burner and b internal wireless). Just waiting for an email about their mighty slow dvd burner.

oh, im sorry. lol i probably should check myself on that one... well, ok then forget savrow, but i think mtech and the people that do the Pegasus Ti are in the UK. honestly im not too sure, but ill go try google anyway. sorry about the mistake .

How will the Sager's be when the PCI-Express comes out? When is the expected arrival?
This is probably Sagers next machine.. this info hasn't been updated in a while..and some of it isn't correct..like the chipset..but this will give you an idea.. As to when.. we're suppose to get an annoucement from PCT sometime in September.

These people are www.Rockdirect.com and the entire sager range (I think). The 5690 is called the xtreme. Nice (relatively) fast dvd burner (4x compared to savrow's 2x) and I can buy as many extras as I want (savrow limited me to an extra battery OR an extra hard drive). Price is great compared to savrow and alienware although living in the US and buying it from pctorque would be much cheaper.

Thanks for directing me to their site (kind of).

EDIT:Only problem would be the sxga screen but I prefer bumping up aa and af instead of the resolution.

d1tt0, m4n... i really want one of those, but am concerned about the release date (eurocom is s+00p1d lol), so i think i may invest in a budget-type system to last me for the year or so until i can afford one. ah well.

Here are some benchmarks for everybody who is putting high hopes on the new Nvidia PCI-E mobile graphics:

http://www.computerbase.de/news/hard...ce_6600_gt_go/

It seems pretty clear to me that this 6600Go will NOT be faster than the MR9800 AGP. I am not sure whether there will be a 6700Go or even a 6800Go. But maybe.

This is the right time to buy a new desktop system or notebook. I do not believe that within the next 12 months a completely new graphics card generation will be released which doubles performance again.
You probably ''leaped'' to fast.. if a 8 pipeline 9800 smokes a 4 pipeline 9700..imagine what a 12pipeline with the X16 interface will do.. oh and it uses less heat not more.

Course in a year 16pipeline cards will be out.. those with AGP will still be with AGP..those with PCIE will simply upgrade to the next ''leap''..

Well lets see..your comparing it to a 6600 go..we don't have the spec's for that..I can't read the site so i dont know what pipelines it has. Its certaintly not on par with the 6800 or ATI's moble x800..so your comparissons are not fair. All the fact's are not in. All your statements of I don't know, I don't think, I doubt this or that..is all to relieve your own mind you made a right choice in jumping to the 9800 bandwagon. And your right..it blows everything away.. Til ATI releases, their new card and Nvidia releases the 6800 Moble...so enjoy being on top for a month..but that is the ever growing changes of advancement

@Syn

It's so funny that you take this personal. Actually, I will be more than happy if a mobile PCI-E x800 with 16 pipes is released pretty soon. This would probably mean that also the MR9800 has 16 pipes and that 8 of them are currently deactivated. If a x800 /w 16 pipes were released it could be easily possible to activate the remaining 8 pipes of the MR9800 via a bios reflash or with the help of a bios editor (same thing happened with the vivo desktop x800 graphics adapter).

As regards the Nvidia mobile sector: Let's wait and see whether there will be a 6700Go. It seems that Eurocom wants to include this card into their Phantom. But this company usually downgrades the specs of their products before they are released. From what I have heared so far the new Nvidia cards may indeed have 12 pipes which is good. However, they seem to be crippled by the slow mem interface. Therefore, I do not expect them to be faster than the ATI cards.

Personal? you got it all wrong. I just dont see how you expect a 8 pipeline agp card to compare with a 16 pipeline PCIE card..

As to your 9800 being possibly 12 pipes..to quote you, I doubt it Besides, even if it were..unless your ready to melt the silicon inside your laptop..I doubt it will ever come to surface.. But its nice to have something to grasp for..far be it for me take away your dreams :P

hey now, folks, lets all have a little time-out here... actually, i was planning to attempt a BIOS flash on my 9800 were i to get that dell, but my path has changed yet again...so don't be hatin' folks.

...jk, flame away.
