Don't forget there is more to a machine then it's CPU & GPU that make it fast. A big factor is what motherboard is in the machine. Typically the Alienware notebooks are running a full 800mhz FSB. This is not to say that the Gateway you looked at didn't have the same.

Just a personal opinion from having owned a Gateway notebook, DONT! I would be looking at Dell if I didn't buy my Alienware.

Im starting to lean towards that opinion on Gateway laptops. While I own & am more than satisfied with 2 Gateway desktops, conifguring a Gateway laptop has not been much fun! The options are just too limited.

I made a phone call to Gateway sales, & clerk indicated to me Gateway was going to undergo a revamping of their laptop sales [configuring/opyions etc] in about a month, maybe just a rumor.

Att: Nomad 33_fw : Care to give feedback on your Gateway laptop, or at maybe an indication of why the "Dont!" Thanks.

what is the argument, it's obvious, AW > ALL. everygamer has heard of alienware and can only dream of getting one. dell? the guy who use to advertise for dell "dude, your getting a dell" did cocaine. although that has nothing to do with my decision i still think aw > dell. the name is worth the extra money, + aw always has cooler looks, and when people see your laptop they judge on looks THEN the stuff your baby can do. alienware for life? YEA KTHX GG

Yeah dude you just made the decision a lot easier for potential Alienware customers. I mean think about it, you would have to be ON cocaine to even consider buying a Dell. Sagers get so hot you could heat up your cocaine right on the palm rest and free base while playing solitaire. Voodoo, nuff said you'd have to be selling cocaine to afford one.

yes...his argument was so damn compelling...he almost didn't say anything but "OoooOo alienware looks sOOoOoOo cOoooOol!" why is the way dell advertises their product even relevent to this discussion? walmart has old people and a cookie for their commercials...do people still buy stuff there? yes. i think we're all talking about different things. im talking about dell's desktops not their laptops. i thought i heard someone say something about gateway...don't do it. the only thing gateway has going for itself is their lease policy where you can use their computers and trade it in when you want a newer model. that's about it.
