gustojunk -- I second everything you've said because I'm in the same boat
However, I don't think the Quadro w/64mb ram in the Dell series would be worth the $$! (May offer 128mb in the M60, I don't know nor care)
Honestly, I feel that the 9600PRO would suit most peoples needs (especially in Maya, Rhino, Max, etc.) and the ONLY reason to bother with a stupid Dell M60 that will easily cost you over 3000 (4000 if you want good specs) is if you're running apps which require
a Quadro such as Houdini or some compositing programs. You apparently dont use these, so go ahead and buy a Sager!
Have you even used the 8887 with Maya? It runs like a dream for me, and most of my files are between 60-100 mb in size. Yes, FireGL would be great, but that's only icing on a cake that's already wonderful
edit -- as far as resolution, one way to make room for working in those programs is to hide menus you don't need (when you're not animating, why have the timeline visible??). I don't use Rhino, but in Maya everything can be accessed from the hotbox -- including hiding menus very quickly.
