A Little Off Topic

Adam,

I was going to get an Alienware box, but after my research, I think I will go with one from your company.

Q: Will color cases ever be made available?

Q: 2X DVD-R/RW CDR Combo available?

Q: I am off to fight terrorist in the desert very soon, will you ship to APO?

Q: When will the 9600 Pro be available? Is the next gen of NVidia even being considered?

Q: I have the $$, can I pre-order a custom box now with a list of my specs?

Thanks for your time!

That's interesting fattony. I hope you're right about the 4060 and 4760 prices. It may just be that the reseller you were looking at has decided to take a smaller profit on the 4760, who knows? But I have calmed down a bit since my previous post, and I've decided to at least wait to see what the 4760 price is. It's only 2 weeks, less than that now. I can wait, and if I can't afford it I'll get something else.

You might be able to stick with your old RAM which would slow the system down and be the major bottleneck. You should put in 2 sticks of 400DDR to run dual channel.
Does that mean that I could possibly take out my processor/RAM before sending it in, and possibly sell it on eBay or something?

Also, considering that the 2880 doesn't even use an Intel processor, (a manufacturer that Microsoft is biased towards), they will definitely NOT approve the 2880 to run the Tablet PC edition.
most tablets are running off non intel at the moment...

Centrino tablets are on the way, supposedly

1. How long does it typically take to upgrade, and why? (Like, based on previous upgrades how long does it take, and also do you upgrade it or does Sager upgrade it what?)
2. What components will be upgraded at the least? (i.e., if you want the cheapest upgrade, can you just do the video card and mother board?)
3. If you do just upgrade the video card and motherboard, will any components that would remain in your computer bring down the speed of the whole computer?
My question has always been why endusers can just upgrade their own laptops. I understand the proprietary nature, but I really don't understand why if a person feels qualified to upgrade a PC, they have experience working on laptops why we can't just buy the parts and do it. I'm certified to work on compaq servers laptops, and desktops..if I choose to undertake such an endeavor, I don't understand why I can't buy the parts. I've purposefully built several desknotes simply because I could by them barebones and then pick and chose the components I wanted in them.

Oh well. I know this is still a gripe that will fall on deaf ears at laptop manufacturers

It's my understanding that there are issues running Maya 5 on the radeon 9000. I haven't heard anything regarding the 9600. An excellent place to go (where there are LOTS of OGL/DX/garden variety programmers) is Beyond3d.com. I'd bet that someone there could make some recommendations.

Sorry I didn't answer your question, but maybe someone there can.

it also has the quicj screen rotate feature, which is a tablet standard hotkey - I think it is a legitimate tablet!

I haven't tried running Maya 5 yet but my computer has a ridiculous number of problems with Maya 4.5 and the Radeon 9000. It crashes so often that I have to turn off all of the video card to have it work... (I think it might be DX9 related, however, as I only have to shut down the DX components of it).
