2nd hard drive as storage

Thread Starter
Anyone here try to install a 2nd hard drive just to use as storage? I tried and no matter how I configure the jumper on the 2nd hard drive windows doesn't recognize it but the bios does. I am running two identical toshiba 60gb hard drives. If anyone know's the fix to this please help.

right click My Computer, click on Manage, click on Disk Management, partition and format your new drive.

Are the jumpers needed?

On a side note, I tried to use my 8500's HDD in my 8790. It worked fine without the jumpers, but it was a few mm to thick to be in the casing with the door closed.

Yep, do just what Senorbiggles said and you should be good, I have a 200gb external and works great.

Well, skidsr4kids, I really don't have to do that either. As you can see from my signature line, my server has plenty of storage with which I can offload files. I also have an external HDD enclosure in which I could put my 30GB 8500 HDD, though I usually have laptop #3's (Enpower’s) first HDD occupying it instead (even though it's 3GB, so I might change it to the 8500's since I’ve finally ghosted it).

I can either increase my 8790's storage by purchasing another HDD from PCT or simply adding another HDD to my server and only bringing what's essential with me on the 8790's HDD. I'm more partial to purchasing another HDD for the 8790, but I'm in Scrooge Mode for the next few months while I decide my next purchases on a lot of things.
