Alienware MJ-12 Thread - Page 3

I don't know if they will do anything like that, but from what their website says it's only a 7 day wait for the Quadro now, how accurate that really is, is a different story. If I were you I would call them and ask what the wait is, other then the video card you really don't have to wait for much else. I don't think you'll have the same wait as me since they finally got them in and started shipping to customers, also they originally accounced production of the MJ12 on June 25th I ordered July 7th so that might have added to the long wait.

Here are the numbers i got on my Dell Precision 360 workstation
2.8 GHz P4
NVidia Quadro FX 3000, running 2 19" monitors (2560 x 1024)
1GB RAM (i i know, i should upgrade to 2GB)

3dsmax-2 - 13.92
catia-01 - 12.13
ensight-01 - 7.489
light-07 - 6.284
maya-01 - 18.74
proe-03 - 18.85
sw-01 - 9.312
ugs-04 - 16.88

i'm suprised that the AW MJ-12 did better in proe than my workstation! i know the dual monitors hurt the performance alot, but that mobile graphics card can hang with the previous generation quadro 3000!

thanks again for all the info. i'm going to try to rally for an AW here at work.

cheers.

As long as I can pay my bills, have a car and my Alienware, I would make games for free.

Our company just bought the MJ-12's rival: the Dell M60. It's got 2GB RAM, Centrino 1.7 GHZ processor, NVidia Quadro Go 1000 graphics card, Windows XP

Here's the SPEC ViewPerf 8.01 results:
3dsmax 10.58
catia-01 9.466
ensight-01 4.711
light-07 8.020
maya-01 15.89
proe-03 14.03
sw-01 9.570
ugs-04 6.824

clearly slower than the AW notebook, but we got it in a week (i've got to take it on a trip this sunday). i still wish we got the AW, but oh well...

The processor on the Dell is what really made me stick with AW, also the IBM's had the same proc's with ATI fire gl's but I couldn't find any reviews on them. Let me know how the Dell's work out.
yea.. the processor bugged me also. only thing you really gain with the centrino is battery life. but i doubt anybody that wants a mobile workstation really cares about battery life. they really want a transportable workstation, where it can be powerful but moved easily.

i don't have anything to compare it to, except our other desktop workstation, or our last dell notebook workstation.

i may save up and get the mj12 for myself, and then i can do a full comparison.

COOL!! congrats dude!!

little Q: is that a extra cooler where its placed on??? what is under your MJ-12??

it behind your MJ on this pic: http://www.lunderworld.com/DSC00054.jpg

Is it some kind of tablet, to put your MJ for extra airflow??

nevermind.. already found it http://www.antec.com/us/productDetai...?ProdID=75005#

Mike, for CAD work your best bet might be a production line machine. But AW started offering the Quadro go1000 in the gear shop to buy as an upgrade so you could give that a shot.

I hope you enjoy your new pc. I have noticed though how most people only get the 1 year warranty with their pcs, why is that?

I actually got a 3year warrenty. The specs I posted was before I upgraded to the three year. For the extra 250 dollars it was worth it.

Mmm

I'm also into game design, infact i'm starting a studio. But I need to know is that Quadro ok for gaming, as we do alot of GFX work, cad work, gaming, and all that stuff. But running UT2k3 in that high res, and being playable it sounds awsome. Sounds like that card has power.

The card is awesome, it really surpirsed me that it played that well. Not complaining at all but, its a production level card, so I got best of both worlds now.
