Alienware MJ-12 Thread - Page 5

Sorry for not responding quicker wwork had been crazy. I was also considering the M60 but the only things that turned me away was the processor. Even though the machine is cheaper, I've always wanted an Alienware in any shape or form and I was looking for a 3D dev machine in a more portable platform. For me spending the money on my dream machine didn't really matter but for 1500 dollars less price for you might factor in. But from looking at your sig. You already seem to be a dell fan so maybe for you the Dell might not be a bad choice. I'm not really sure about the performance differences but I am very happy with machine and wouldn't trade it in for any other 3D mobile development machines out there right now.

Hey Chrisd, for some reason, I'm much more fond of the P-M procs than I am the standard desktop procs. I did end up going with the M60... but thanks for the input. Once I get the machine, I'll post a review over in the Dell Reviews forum if anyone is interested.

Yea please post one when you get it, I'm interested in seeing how the m60 compares in actual use.

There's a brief review in there now. I personally won't be doing any more benches, but do check out the link I mentioned in my review. Ofelas did a very thorough benchmarking of his computer, whose setup is very similar to my own. I don't have Pro/Engineer with me yet, but I'll be adding a review of running that program once its installed.

Can anyone say for sure what the real difference between an MJ-12m abd an Area51m is? Also, do they all come with remotes?

I think i'm gonna order one (MJ-12m) next week, and i want to know if it's worth the extra $150 or so or should I just configure an Area51m to my liking.

As far as the difference in the MJ12 and the Area51m, the main difference is the MJ12 comes standard with the Quadro go1000 with the option to get the other vdieo cards. With the Area51m the only choice is the 9700 and the 5700 nvidia. Keep in mind this is the 5500 model not the new 7700 with the Nvidia 6800. I'm pretty that's the only big difference but they're might be some other minors ones but not sure.

Thanks Chris, I think you're the first person on the forum to actually respond to a request for info! Do all the 5500's come with a remote?

I'm going to be honest and say yes. I'm pretty sure they all do any of the reviews I've read I'm pretty sure the remote was always mentioned. If you can't find it on AW site, post it in the main Notebook section and somone else will be able to give you a definite answer.
