New HP/Compaq models

Thread Starter
HP/Compaq announced their new laptops with 14" widescreen and 5.2 lbs weight. HP DV1000 plays DVDs and MP3s without booting the OS. As soon as you insert a DVD or a CD, the system turns on. It has a reasonable price of under $1200.

Compaq V2000 looks like R3000 but a little light and smaller. They both have many ports and internal-fixed optical drives. V2000 is cheaper than DV1000.
I think they are better than Dell's 700M model. They may show up in many stores like ZD,ZV and ZX models.

Which new models will be anounced until holidays. It is worth waiting.

There are already many reviews:

A SEPERATE HP/COMPAQ DISCUSSION FORUM is needed in this site. There are all other models but why a major brand is absent?

They definitely look interesting. They use a Brightview screen also, which looks just as good as xbrite IMO.

I am test driving a compaq v2030us right now, which i procured from best buy..and I am loving it. The 14" widescreen HD brightview screen seems to provide me with the best size and weight for a portable notebook computer, not to mention the excellent keyboard.

I actually had placed and order for the Dell inspiron 8600, but happened to go to the mall and see one in person at the Dell kiosk. Absolutely horrible. no style. looks like a laptop from the 1980's.....

I have gone ahead and placed an order from HPshopping for a v2030us, with one change. I opted for the dvd-rom/cd-rw drive since I have no need to burn a DVD.
I used my student ID and my final price is $1155.26, compared to the regular price of $1379 for the standard. There is still the $30 rebate, bringing the deal to $1125.26 I am happy with the deal I am getting.

If any one is looking for a decent laptop for their school or work, this one is superb at a mere 5.2lbs nad a size that is extremely comfortable to carry.

I actually looked at both of them side by side and the brightview looked way from glossier than the Xbrite.
