Asus W1 and noise?

Hello all,

I am very interested in that notebook, but I wasn't able to play around with one yet.

How noisy is this notebook? I need one that is usable in libraries or quiet restaurants without annoying people 10 yards away.
The great pictures on this japanese? chinese? website, where they took the whole system apart, told me, that everything is cooled by just one big fan.

Is the fan running all the time, during word processing or only when doing cpu and graphic intensive work (like gaming for example)?

What kind of noise is the fan producing? A tolerable low humming or a high pitched whirring?

How about the 60 GB hdd? Any remarkable sounds from that?

Thanks and Best Regards

For the specs, I don't think it would be noisy, specially since Asus notebooks (and specially the W1, for the looks) are "executive" notebooks...

Mines pretty darn quiet.

If I game, the fan spins up pretty hard, but it still isnt bad. The sound hardware is nice- I havent any speakers that take the optical out, but I have some pretty nice sony studio headphones, and it drives those quite well.

The fan produces a low whooshing noise. My hard disk is the stock 80gig hitachi, clicks very lightly. Not as quiet as my 60 gig 7200 rpm I had in my m6n, but still barely noticeable.

You wont disturb anyone in those settings- your typing will be far louder than the unit ambient noises.

Thanks :)

Thanks for your help.

I decided to order the small version of the W1 (1,5 GH, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD and a resolution of 1280 x 800, without TV tuner).

To ward off all evil I invested about $ 42 in a guarantee that my notebook will be free of defective pixels. Now it just has to arrive here.

Best Regards

Where arethey customizing them? Er, whered you get it? Just curious.

US models are without the tv tuner period, Asus says they pulled it entirely. Seems like they are scurrying about designing the next big'un.

Hello Eric,

I am in Germany. Lots of vendors claim to have models with tv tuner in stock. The vendor I ordered at is giving € 171 ($ 206) discount on on of those machines because it's having one red and one yellow pixel defect and € 71 ($ 86) on another one because of a light blue pixel defect. That shows that at least some of those models made it to the vendors here.

Best Regards
