Hello all...

First i would like to thank all of you who have helped me so far in my search for a perfect notebook..

I have decided to go with Hp/Compaq models for their excellent repuation and their support in my country..

The models i'm thinking of are

HP/Compaq nx7010 series
Compaq X1000 series
Compaq R3000Z series
HP zv5000z series
HP zt3000 series

all with a 64MB dedicated video card (Nvidia or ATI)..

Which one do you think is the best..

The other choices i made are

FSC Amilo a1630 and
Acer Aspire 2012Wlmi

These are the only laptops in my price range.. obviously the amilo is the best but it is currently out of stock and has a short battery life..

please choose your personal favourite out of the Hp and compaq models and links to any reviews you read..

Thanks

Eddie

I have eliminated the compaq x1000 for lack of off the shelf models that fit my need also i am getting second thoughts about the Aspice 2012wlmi for its banias core, is there a chance that one with a dothan ill come out any time next month??

The notebooks im now considering are

HP Compaq nx7010 (PL529UA) which is good but lacks DVD writer..

HP Pavilion zt3380us which is great but very expensive

HP Pavilion zv5260us or Compaq Presario R3240US (the diff is Hp/compaq 15.4/15, 80GB/60GB HDD, and 1600/1500 Bux) which are the best IMO but have a very outdated Nvidia Go Card, run hot and a very short battery life

and the FSC Amilo A1630..

Ne views on any of these lappies

I have a Compaq R3240us. I have had no problems with it at all. It's a fast computer. I overclocked the gpu a bit, other than that its stock and I like this computer a lot. Has great sound compared to the m6809....and I also like the screen better. the 60gb hdd isnt exactly cool, and the dvd writer only writes to +r/rw which is also gay, but other than that its a good computer, I HEART AMD 64

I have a R3240CA (same as R3240US but in Canada) and I find that it doesn't run that hot. Get something to elevate the laptop when you have it on a desk (like a Targus swivel stand - pretty cool). I know everybody's obsessed with video cards, but as a friend of mine said, if you want to game, get a game console. I find the battery life to be not too bad. With wireless on and medium brightness, I can get about 2.5 hours - maybe even more if I tweak the settings. Plus, for me, another plus was that accessories were easily available at my local Best Buy. Always a bonus. I bought the larger capacity battery and I would think I should get another hour minimum. You should ask yourself how often you'll be away from an outlet. Only 1 to 1.5 hours battery life is probably too short, but once you get 2 to 2.5 hours above, well, it probably doesn't make THAT much difference. If you have to go a really long time without external power, you should probably consider a much smaller ultraportable (or even a Windows CE device that can go for about 7 to 9 hours). I agree with cwin34 - for some reason, my screen is fantastic. Bright, crisp... not washed out.
