Asus M5N or Uniwill N223II0???

Hey all... I'm getting a laptop for college and I need something thats light and small since I will have a desktop also. The ones in my budget are the Asus M5N or the Uniwill N223II0.

The uniwill specs:
1.7ghz dothan
512 ram
40gig 5400rpm
cd/dvd blah blah etc...

Asus specs
1.5ghz dothan
512 ram
40gig 5400rpm
extra 9cell battery (2 hours batt life is not enough)
etc...

The problem is.... even with 200 less mhz, the asus will cost about 250 more (including shipping/tax) The uniwill has a final price of $1200 while the asus will have $1450.

Is the asus with its slightly lighter/thinner chassis worth the extra 250? Is the extra 200mhz of the uniwill very noticable? I probably will not be playing games that much on it as I have a desktop but there will be occasional games of cs.

Thanks for your help

You look at the S5 from Asus also? Similar specs, as I read it. S5 is a 12" screen though. Might be too small.

both the uniwill and the m5n are 12.1" screens, its what I'm looking for. I've looked at the s5n but i dont like it because of the ultralow power p4 or something like that. And also because it doesn't have a built in optical drive. Thanks though.

Personally, I would pay the extra for the Asus given their better reputation for build quality and warranty.

Going thru similar dilemma right now, want an ultraportable, 12.1" or smaller. Problem with m5n is resolution is 1024x768, which is pretty low nowadays. Uniwill has 1280x800 widescreen which is nice. Only problem is the place I want to get the uniwill from (ekm.com) won't return any of my e-mails.

I also emailed ekm like 3 weeks ago and never received a reply.

Also the uniwill has S-video out and has Intel Extreme Graphics 2.

While Asus has no S-video and has the older IEG graphics but is lighter and comes standard with 1 year warranty.

Also the Asus has a 12 XGA screen while the uniwill has the 12 WXGA screen.

So the Asus has the bigger screen while Uniwill has the better resolution.

ekm has the "add to cart' option now and they updated their site. The m5n and the uniwill have the same integrated extreme graphics 2. I think I'm gonna go with the asus though.

The asus has the older Intel Extreme Graphics 1 onboard hence no S-video out.

here's my advice
a company that doesn't know how to answer emails is a company not worth dealing with
take it from me with my horrid experience, when you're buying a laptop MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION
my girlfriend bought a S5, hers is a 1.6 Dothan
it's a beautiful machine btw

Which is probably why people deal mainly deal with them through their resellers.

Hey gasw, dont both the m5n and the uniwill have the 855gme chipset? And according to intels website that chipset has the intel extreme graphics 2? I'm confused.
yes according to ASUS it has the 855GME chipset which should have Intel Extreme Graphics 2.

According to Unwill the video card is also IEG2 which should have the 855GME chipset.

However the ASUS has no svideo out and it just says IEG not IEG2.

I think one of the companies maybee using an older 855GM which has the older graphics card?

Yeah, I settled on the asus though and ordered it yesterday. Buying the uniwill just wouldn't make me happy. Thanks though.
