The Official "New 3DMark" Thread

Here is a link from Futuremark's forums...its a post by one of their people discussing some details about the next 3DMark soon to be released.

http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum/...Number=4287494

The 8th post by "Agen" is priceless

What do you guys think? Will they bring the legitimacy of this program back to where it once was?

Or will it just be another, supposed, front by an unnamed GPU manufacturer to sell more video cards?

Have at it!

Oh yes, if only Agen knew what we knew. And I really hope it does. But as of right now, it seems like all the benchmarking progs seem to be doing is serve as a way for the GPU Nazi's to shove newer and newer products down our throats. We can only hope, Craig, we can only hope....

There are many posts by Futuremark's employees...but ya, a few jokes here and there too

I thought it was worth the read. But that's just me being bored too.

Bored??? There are a lot of cool demos being released lately. Have you tried Rome Total War? I can't stop playing the Battle of Trebia -- so much fun

3dmark is good to compare your system to other similar systems. Kinda a tip off if something is wrong. Is there or will there be tests for DirectX 9 and a OpenGL test? There is a definite wall being built between the Doom3 and Hl2 Engines and which cards are endorsed by which game

It's not that long. Only 10 posts per page. Nice find, Craig.

PS, there are leaked screenshots for it for those really inclined to see it now. Looks pretty nice, although it seems to only have three tests.

I dont think Alienware really knows how to benchmark to good, or something was up. They sent all the info with my pc, scores, all kinds of stuff, everyone knows the deal. Well in 3dmark03 it said i scored around low 8,000 with my vid card..... first off I was like WTF...... so I install my 3dmark03 pro, leave default settings, let it run through, and I hit 10,000+. So, uh.....2,000+ mark difference, I just don't understand. Oh well.

mm_omega,

Maybe the dleviery courier knocked the gpu back into place :P

benchmarks are overated

I know alienware will swear by them, but way overated.

Odd though when alienware goes to shows they dont have one benchmarking system on it. They happen to have 3 or 4 games instead...

A computer company needs to be orginal and step away from standard benchmarks such as that. When I sell computers I make to clients I dont give them a 3dmarks score. I have them the avg FPS of games that I played on it for 30 mins. Real world results are way better than fake ones. Anyone can tweek a card or driver to do well in 3 tests.

I know this is a rant, and I cant wait to see the next one. But by no means am I going to judge my system in comparison to others that way.

Those dang FedEx guys, I knew they were ok for something. Maybe I should have him drive around with it some more and end up with an XT PE.

The only benchmarking programs anyone needs are the three latest best-selling games.
