Check this out:

old uxga vs new uxga

Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong but the 8887's screen is the same as the "old" screen (except it's 1" bigger diagonally), correct? This was the kind of difference I was talking about before... in my opinion, the better quality of the wide-angle screen available on the 5670 far outweighs the ability to sit an inch further away from the 16" screen to get the same relative viewing size (when sitting at a normal working distance from the screen).

Again, that's just my opinion... take a look at the pictures and judge for yourself.

Agreed, Heath. Obviously, this thread and forum is full of everyone's opinion, which is what makes it great. I luvvvvv my big-16, but I do have to drool over the wide-angle viewing, though I've never seen it in person. My 16 has to be set just right, particularly when viewing very bright displays. As always, what works best for the beholder is the way to go.

Agreed. A large part of the reason I bought a notebook was so I could show virtual 3D models of my sculptures to clients at meetings. I didn't want them to have to place their heads on my shoulders just to see the images clearly.

With the wide-angle viewing, you really can see just fine even when way off center. It really is a screen to drool over...

I have owned the 5660 and the 8887 and now waiting on the 8890. I admit that the display on the 5660 when viewed from a wide angle is better.....there is no doubt about that. But generally speaking..........it seems to me that the majority of normal viewing, whatever that is, will be sitting directly in front of the LCD where the 88xx display is at its best. To me, the 16.1 outweighs, by a slim margin, the 15 on the 56xx when watching movies or playing games............

Hi,

15", 16", 17" - blech! What I wanted was http://www.bips-inc.com/images/web_datasheet.pdf with the 22" screen. This is the same display sold by Viewsonic and others for about $7K. Resolution is 3840x2400 I ended up buying an 8887 because I could not find a backpack it would fit into that and how would I explain to my wife that my new computer cost more than our car!

I have not been able to find a web site in English for the NEC Versa Pro NX VA20S which has a 15" QXGA (2048x1536) display. It is not available in North America.

Now, I would seriously consider upgrading to a 8890+ with a 16" or 17" QXGA with 8GB of RAM. I very quickly hit 1GB and can see that 4GB is going to limit what I had planned on setting up.

hmmm no more wide screens in stock sucks...and being able to hold like nothing.

grrrr this is such a hard decision to make, I could deal with swapping I mean how often do you use a floppy drive, and at that 2 cd roms at the same time?

im pretty sure the tv tuner fits in with that as well if you have 2 extra bays and 1 HD.

sucks.....better but smaller screen with less capacity, but more compact lappy in one hand. Huge mofo with all the goodies and a big screen in the other.

Come on........you know the American way..........Huge mofo with all the goodies and a big screen...........that is the one John Wayne would have picked........and either Powernotebooks.com or PCTorque is the way to go.

lol sinestr, it doesnt sound like the wide screens are really comin back either, so if they arent here when the time comes, the 8887 it is.
