Service Pack 2

Help!

I installed SP2 on both the home PC and the Sager this weekend, and I got completely locked out of the internet. Cable ISP said I was connecting just fine at home, but I kept getting "could not load page". I ended up doing a system restore and reinstalling SP2, and everything seems to work OK now.

Now the lappy is giving me the same problem. I run XP Home and usually connect through Verizon Broadband service. Has anyone out there run into the same problem? I'd really rather not go through the hassle of a system restore again.

Go to network properties, disable the firewall and see if that fixes it, the SP2 firewall is overly agressive

tried that, didn't work

No browsers are connecting on the lappy. On the home pc, too, I can't do certain things, like download spyblaster. I get the "you are not authorized to view this page". And I can't get into IE tools - it says see my administrator. I think somehow I got logged in as a user and now I can't change anything. Any t*****ts?

I installed SP2 on my mom's boyfriends P4 desktop machine the other day. After that I couldn't even access the optical drives and had several other problems. I had to reinstall the whole OS. I've read posts where people say everything was fine. But not with me, so I'll stay away.

I just installed sp2 on my 4750 with no problems. I am using xp pro.

SP2's bitch

Ogre I've got to agree with you. I feel bitch slapped.

Ran system restore on home pc, then reloaded SP2 and things mostly OK. The few "page not accessible" responses I get are mostly due to some kind of pop-up control, which generally kicks in when downloading (MajorGeeks.com, especially). If I catch it fast enough I can turn it off and still get my download. Anyone know how to turn off this particular item?

I uninstalled SP2 from the lappy and, voila, I can now connect again to the web. Since it worked on the home pc I'm thinking of trying again on the lappy.

Lastly, I'm now using Spyblaster, Ad-aware SE, and Spybot (all free versions) behind ZA Pro, but I've heard other programs may catch stuff these don't. Any comments?
