I own the model before this one. This one just came out and there is a really good forum for it on the net.
NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black, Model ND-3500A BK
I've never had a bad burn on mine ever.
If you just want a CD reader..
Samsung Black 52x CD-ROM
or a CD/DVD reader
Lite-On Black 48X CD-ROM, 16X DVD-ROM

If you want a DVD burner, go with the NEC above. If you don't need the 16X DVD+R/4X DVD+R Dual Layer, you can get the ND 2510 model (8X DVD+R/2.4X DVD+R DL), for about $15 less. If I buy it, I would do it from NewEgg. Best prices/reliability.
For notebooks, there are the ND5500 and the ND6500 (the last one burns DVD DL).
All the above drives can burn + and - kind of media.
NEC, NEC, NEC, NEC. Cheap and Good.
