Avadirect UNIWILL N258KA0 thoughts?

Here is my scenereo. Having narrowed down my choices and coming up with this model as my pick for a decent DTR laptop falling within my price range of $1400 - $1600 give or take a few $, thus far have not had enough confidence to order through Ibuypower, Cyber..(whatever), or Mwave but happened to come across this vendor: www.avadirect.com

They just happen to be located in my neighboring state (Ohio) and only aprox. 75 miles from my home. They have a good rating @ reseller.com of 9.83 -> http://www.resellerratings.com/seller4632.html

Here is the config I came up with:

AMD, AMD 1025 Laptop (15.4In Screen, DVD/CD-RW or DVD-RW, 128Mb Radeon 9700)
UNIWILL, Premier N258KA AMD Notebook, 15.4In Display
AMD, Athlon 64 Mobile Processor 3200+
DDR-400, 512Mb, PC-3200, 200 Pin, SODIMM
IBM, 60.0GB, 7200 RPM, 9.5mm, Slim EIDE Hard Drive
UNIWILL, Internal Combo Drive (CD/DVD and CD-R/RW)
WARRANTY, Assembled and Tested (1 Year Limited Parts, Lifetime Labor Warranty)

Total is: $1625.85 (does not include shipping)

The only negative is it doesn't come with the built in 802.11 b/g as does Ibuypower's offering but I already have a linksys PCMCIA b/g I currently use in my aging Thinkpad 1441 so thats probably no big deal although I would have prefered it built-in this time.

Has anyone here done business with avadirect?
How is the built-in wireless on this board (where available) vs.s just using my PCMCIA mentioned?
What would you do in my situation:
Take a chance on dealing with a vendor 1800 miles away and save maybe $60 and retain internal wireless on the same basic config OR go with avadirect which is a drive away if something were to go wrong plus gain PC-3200 vs PC2700 SODIMMs?

You can buy the internal wireless card seperately instead of having to use a PCMCIA card..

How hard is that to install. I don't have a problem tearing down a desktop but the thoughts of going inside a laptop frighten me
Or maybe I could ask the vendor about doing this although they only seem to offer the USB Or PCMCIA type within the configurator.

Followup and initial impressions

Ordered this on Tuesday (this week) 8/31
Received on Friday (yesterday) 9/3 !

Well packaged and everything seems as advertised/ordered.
At 3:45 PM I started WinXP 8.5Gb partition for OS and install and 4:12 PM I was up and running.
Loaded all the drivers on the included Uniwill Utility disk.
Had a little trouble setting up my Linksys PCMCIA card (probably my fault) I ended up having to first disable the integrated wireless as hadn't realized even though it didn't actually come with the system, was being picked up I guess by XP due to the integration on the MB.

The bad

One annoying dead pixel (its like flouresant green) very tiny but appears about 2" up and 4" in from left. Only noticable on dark backdrops.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Will try to post up a review at a later date with pictures.

Any other (drivers) or such that I should install outside of those on the included utility disk? Haven't gamed or benched yet and so far am running just on AC till I get everything setup as I want. Already did all windows updates including SP2 so far all is well.

PS: And I'm seeing during bios post @ boot that 807 or whatever processor speed display and in My Computer/Properties its saying 3200+ then on the next line varying readings in Mhz between like 300s one time and 600s another. -> Now where's that Powernow thread

Try downloading the newest cpu driver from AMD's website. There are numerous threads about it, but I found that by downloading everything off of the site my 258K0A works perfectly.

i still cant get my CPU to run at the right lappy. I have 2 dead pixels (thats why it is going back) but i love everything else about this system. And...it makes for an awesome personal space heater. My experience with IBP so far has been great. I called tech support, got a call back in 10 minutes, and again the tech did a follow-up in 24 hours which i wasn't even expecting. Look at my sig, I got the same config you are going for + wifi (also a bag and FarCry DVD). and paid less for it.

Yep abf, thats a *Hot* system. Literally even I was watching your choice of model and config the past weeks upon making my decision. I was close to grabbing it @ Ibuypower but had concerns about them coming through or not (and the waiting period...), so I had looked up the mentioned vendor which happens to be in my neighboring state and also reviewed their rating on reseller.com . Am very happy with my choice both system and vendor since I got it remarkably 3 1/2 days after ordering. And I did get DDR-400 PC3200

I'm going to try that suggestion Flyby - thanks. Do I need to un-install anything first or just find the appropriate driver for AMD 3200+ ? As far as the powernow bit, I'm not even sure if it actually installed now. I had ran the install from the "Utilites" disc but isn't it supposed to have a listing in Programs or something? Another words wtf do I find the powernow stuff once/if its actually been installed properly

I am considering one of these N258KA0 notebooks, probably through Mwave since they are local for me.....but I want an internal wireless card. Which card is compabile or best for this model...And, how big of a deal is the installation?

by the way: Would the installation of an internal wireless card void the warranty.

Ehh....

Looks wise.....HOT

Temp wise....warmish. Even after gaming (FarCry, CS, NFS: Under, GTA:VC) it is pretty warm but not hot....it gets hot during long installs (like OS) and Formating/Partitioning where the HD usage is extensive.

Warm: like a Tall tazo chai from Starbucks that you leave out in room temp for 20-30 minutes.

Hot: Freshly brewed black coffee left out in 36F temp for 3-5 minutes.

come to think of it....it isn't even as bad as that Sager with the cd player feature that you don't need to turn the lappy on for. I forget the model, but i played around with one during lunch in school on friday. Haha...that kid (other than me) is probably the only one in the entire school (1500 people) who know where to look for a real lappy.

I think most of the Sagers have that AudioDJ feature now.. my old 5650 did, the 3790 does, and come to think of it the 1557 has it too.
i think it was the 5650.....its about 8lbs, has a 15" sxga, P4, M11.
Two things....
I have the N258SA5 UNIWILL (sister of the N258KA0) and I think it was a great bang for the buck...
P4 2.8 HT
512 PC2700
800mhz FSB
40gig 5400
DVD/CDRW combo
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro 128
$1350

www.internetishop.com - has a pretty good selection of P4 and AMD laptops, definitely worth a look

Other question I have is...do internal laptop wireless cards have as strong a reception as the external? I don't mean to get off-topic but both comments come as a result from reading through this thread.
