Can anyone reccomend a good P4 mobo that has pci-e? Googling this info brings up some real confusing info. Under $200 preferably

Try www.pricewatch.com, motherboards, PCI-express. Great place to find pc parts. Here are a few part #'s from there (no personal experience with the mobos, sorry)
INTEL BOXD915PCY
ASUS P5GD1-VM
Gigabyte GA-8I915GPRO
many many more available ...

Have you searched froogle.google.com instead of google's web search? May be useful as well.

I'd just check the manufacturers' websites. Such as ASUS', Intel's and Gigabyte's. Look for the LGA775 socket motherboards (aren't those the only ones with PCI-e?). It's intel's 915, 925 chipsets for Intel cpus

www.gigabyte.com.tw
www.asus.com

I'd doubt they would cost more than $200 In Taiwan they weren't over 6500 TWD ($200)

Go to Newegg.com You can narrow your motherboard search by many different options including PCI express

ive seen some prices on these pci express motherboards and they have been over 200 dollars. ones ive seen have been 250 on up. at least right now i would think its gonna be hard to find a pci express motherboard under 200 dollars.

There are actually quite a few under 200, but they lack the features of the higher end boards.

MSI's 915 mobos are pretty inexpensive for an entry-level pci express board. The 925 chipset is better, though, right around $200. ZipZoomFly has the 915 boards (915G $140)

eWiz has the MSI 925 board for $208, (neo platinum).

Just took a look at Newegg's site and they have an ECS board for 95 bucks, but it lacks the features of the better boards.

And then there is this beast of a motherboard: Dual Gigabit, 10 USB 2.0, 8 SATA, PCI X16 and 6 DDR2. Only 250.00

If I had an inkling to build a new computer, it would be around this board.

I would never recommend an ECS board, they tend to be on the cheaper side and not made as well. The gigabytes are good, though, along with MSI and Asus.

Is it really worth the improvement to PCIe? I might just go for a high end traditional mobo
post #11 of 11
Right now, no. There is not that much difference between a high end AGP based system and a high end PCI Express system. It wil be awhile before the full potential of PCI Express is unleashed.
