what a relief to have found this thread. I was losing my mind making minor tweaks and assessing th reults. I was even quietly suspecting my girlfriend of being cursed because it froze more frequently when she would touch the computer
Turns out she's just more conductive. Anyhow, I called tech support to tell them I'm onto them, he said he knew about it and if I brought it to a service place they'd fix it. He said some of the computers were assembled without getting electrical tape in certain spots, and because it wasn't in all of them it didn't qualify for a recall.
so i'll bring it in tomorrow and hopefully it'll never happen again. All in all I'm not impressed with their quality control at whatever plant these came from. But thank goodness that our collective brainstorming yielded an answer. I'd prefer more proactiveness on Toshiba's part, but I guess thats the nature of the beast. Anyhow, thanks to everyone who helped solve this tech mystery and lets keep our fingers crossed that some tape will do the trick and that our circuitry has not been too fried.
