Battery Problems

I'm not getting nearly the battery life you report out of your new Sentias. I get maybe 2 hours doing regular stuff like editing a txt file or something. The first time I used the battery, I did not plug it in and charge it but it said it was fully charged anyway. That's the only thing I can think of to explain my poor battery life. Does anyone have any suggestions, or do I need to get a new one from Alienware?

chamith,

Try conditioning the battery for a few cycles over a few days.

One cycle is plugging in and fully recharging the unit and then unplugging it from AC power and letting it drain until it shuts itself down.

Do that once a night for a week and let us know how it goes.

I'll try that but I thought these were Li Ion batteries which have no cell memory. Did you all charge your batteries before you first used them?

Yes...I cycled mine about 7 or 10 times...and I still do a cycle a month to be safe.

You are correct that Li Ion batts shouldn't need to be conditioned...they just seem to work better if they are.

Let us know how it goes.

I didn't charge it right out of the box, I didn't want to wait. I used it for a couple of hours, but the next day I let it completely charge. I've let it run down to the bottom a bunch of times and completely charged it back up. I'm still getting better good times, I think its basically 4 hours.

is it bad to unplug it and not do a full charge when you get it?
a i know conditioning is good but is there any thing that could affect its lifespan and make it shorter?
