Which linux for a 8790

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I've never used linux before and I would like to install it on my 8790 as the second OS. Which (free) linux distribution and version would you suggest me? I need one that is user friendly for people who are new to linux (not oversimplified), but also very powerful, when used by an expert. Ah, and if possible, I wouldn't like it to screw up the whole machine and the partitions of the hd left to winxp

Thx!

Gentoo went on mine with no problems, have everything installed except the camera, no driver for it yet.,

cant you use partition majik to split the primary partition in two without affecting winxp or is winxp "sensitive" about this? I too will be running linux on my 8790 when I get it, thinking of mandrake, suse or redhat...leaning twards suse though, just goota pick either gnome or kde...not sure on that one yet, any expert opinions?

This is purely a matter of personal preference. Try both. Out of the two, I prefer KDE.

Indeed install both and try them out. As to partitions PM is great. Do some research on the boards here there is a wealth of knowledge on these boards.

How did you get everything working on gentoo? I have slackware running and still cant get webcam or tv tuner operational . . . and I haven't played with the buttons or scroll pad yet . . . Plus having ATI 3d issues and multiple sound at once issues but those can be worked out . . . tv tuner tips would be nice but my understanding is theres no driver for it yet.
